Just confirmed that I'll be the lead reporter covering the 57th Anniversary of the #MarchonWashington --the #GetYourKneesOffOurNecks #CommitmentMarch --for National Geographic on Friday, August 28th. Not only is this an historic honor, I'll be privileged to capture the voices of people who've endured this past year of chaos and reckoning in America, and who want to see change. I was almost two years old during the first event; what a blessing it will be to bear witness now. If any of my LinkedIn peeps plan to be in #WashingtonDC on Friday, I'd love to chat with you ahead of the March to find out why you're coming. And if any of you know anybody who was at the first March, I'd love to interview them. Inbox me with names and numbers! #MarchOnWashington2020 …see more

I'm finding new superheroes every day. Reading about Dr. Leana Wen 's battle with #cervicalcancer only made me admire her journey to becoming President of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America even more. I'm also more committed to heralding the work of Planned Parenthood, the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and all local and international organizations that fight for #reproductivejustice . #globalhealth #abortionrights #reproductivehealth #familyplanning #womenshealth #healthcareaccess #cancerscreening #routinescreenings #HealthForAll …see more

I was thinking about the power of #rolemodels in our lives when I posted my first Instagram #IGTV video yesterday. Ideally, they're someone in our lives who we can draw guidance or inspiration from on a regular basis. Sometimes, that powerful influence can be thousands of miles away. But if you're ever lucky enough for that far away icon to actually materialize in your life, it's an incredible experience. That's what happened on September 26th for Chanel Porchia-Albert , the founder of ANCIENT SONG DOULA SERVICES in Brooklyn, NY. I'll never forget how profoundly moved Chanel was meeting Edna Adan Ismail , the internationally-renowed #midwife , #nurse , and maternal/child health advocate from #Somaliland who was participating in United Nations General Assembly activities. The emotional connection was so powerful, I wanted to share it with my LinkedIn family for this reason: Your intention and persistence can result in what seems like magic. Your dreams and goals can come true. I've lived it, and I've seen it happen to others. Just keep the faith. Check out the video on my Instagram IGTV at Rachella55. #inspiration #vision #goalsetting #mentoring #maternalhealth #childhealth …see more
I've just begun a remarkable, humbling reporting journey into the issue of maternal mortality. As a journalist, the privilege and responsibility of entering people's lives, often when they are at their most vulnerable, is extremely sobering. But the opportunity to make a positive difference is incredibly exhilarating. I'll be spending the next two months meeting moms, midwives, doulas and other people who are committed to achieving safe and equitable care for high risk mothers, and to amplifying the role of racism and implicit bias in the health outcomes for pregnant women and new mothers in the U.S. and internationally. I'll be visiting several cities in the U.S., including my current location, Washington, DC, and will also travel abroad. So I'm counting my blessings every minute of every day for this challenging new chapter of my career. #maternalhealth #globalhealth https://lnkd.in/gKRCuDg …see more
Kudos to journalist Linda Villarosa , for her absorbing, brilliantly reported and written feature in The New York Times , "Why America's Black Mothers and Babies Are in a Life-or-Death Crisis." I spend so much time thinking about global health in developing countries, that it is sometimes too easy to neglect what's happening right here in America. #HealthForAll isn't just a trendy hashtag; it should stand for the right to health and social justice for everyone. #maternalhealth #childhealth …see more

From Medium.com : This is WONDERFUL information for anyone who has dreamed of living outside of America. After almost 9 years of expat life, I returned because I love this country with all my heart. But if you've ever wanted to at least try living and working elsewhere, you really should. It will definitely give you a broader perspective, and make you feel more connected globally. A great piece on how to maximize the value of being human in a world of robots, by my colleague Abbass Al Sharif, PhD
During #COVID19 the US has been importing more #pharmaceuticals … and #robots . Almost everything else is down
The #COVID19 world of American #realestate - #datacenters and #infrastructure way up; #hotels and #shopping #malls way down. What will happen to #office ?
What is the future of #cities after the #pandemic ? In, this YouGov survey of #London more than 50% of people say their behavior - #pubs , #restaurants , #travel , #sports - will never go back to the pre #COVID normal https://bit.ly/2CpwAsi
Most Americans don't want to go out post #COVID19 even when allowed to - the psychological impact of coronavirus
Looks like #UnEmploymentClaims lower in states with less #COVID19 - makes sense. Those states are also mostly ones that #Trump won in 2016. I fear the pandemic, rather than uniting us, will only add to existing #polarization
