I'm not calling for denial, but it's about time the Media turned to optimism. To some a large extent the World's economy works around confidence in our future, optimism and hope. An owner of retail spaces is more likely to let a retailer miss rental payments if they believe their business will bounce back, A small business owner can likely hang on longer if they can feel a sharp recovery happening soon and have been allowed to fall behind on rent . People are more likely to book a vacation if they feel their job is secure, people's jobs are secure when people spend money. Confidence in the future means stocks rise, bonuses flow, pensions are safeguarded, money is a flow. I'm not asking for propaganda or insensitivity to the loss of life, but every story is being spun in the most negative way possible & we're going to manufacture an era of hopelessness, destroyed futures for the young, all because negative stories earned a few more cents with terrible banner ads. It's time to see the ample positive data for what it is & get ready for a period of rapid rejuvenation. It is not disrespectful of those who have perished to kindle hope with balanced reporting. It is not supporting reckless and unsafe behaviour to report the positive. …see more

"Would you like fries to go with that?" has become an iconic catchphrase in the business world. #CrossSelling, to be successful, needs to be an intrinsic and essential part of the company’s strategy. We often talk about cultivating innovation as part of a company’s #culture, as its DNA. But we also need to cultivate revenue expansion and customer value expansion. It takes time, but a company that is focused on this, and then integrates it into its DNA is more likely to dominate and differentiate in the long term. …see more

In the formative stages of a startup, hiring the right talent is among the most important things a founder will have to do. And it’ll be worth considering tapping into the skills and expertise of senior professionals while they are at it.  I am reminded of the book ‘Outliers’ by Malcolm Gladwell where he notes that 10,000 hours is the magic number for greatness. That you need to have practiced and to have apprenticed for at least 10,000 hours before you get good at a task. In fact, senior professionals and retirees come having incubated their skills and talent for much longer than that. And, therefore, they are worth more for their experience than what their age accredits them with. Whether you engage them full-time or part-time, as a consultant or as a part of the in-house team, it’s certainly a good idea for young founders enroll the expertise of someone who’s navigated the deep waters of a formal organization and can guide them in their journey to building one. Perhaps I am so much in favor of this because I am aging myself! Nevertheless, with average lifespan expected to improve in the years to come - 120 years as per some estimates - we have to start thinking about longer-term productivity measures and workforce inclusion. …see more

My company closed its doors this October. My little brother passed away last October. It's been a crappy year [for many of us]. But also a year of deep discovery. When our company closed down I decided to step away from our company podcast as well. It's been awesome to see Izzy make it his own and I'm excited to see where he goes with it. But, over the past few months I've been working on a podcast of my own. I’ve never given my all to anything creatively. My attention has always been split between trying to grow a company, clients, employees, etc. This is the first time where I am pouring everything that I have into a project. My entire life I have been taking in depth notes about the things going on around me. I was a big Kobe Bryant fan. As a kid I would watch his games, his moves, his style; take notes and go to the court and try to implement what I was studying. As an entrepreneur I was the same way. Obsessive. I dive deep into things that most people don’t even pay attention to. It’s just who I am. This show is a way for me to do that. I’m having conversations with people, dissecting those conversations, and turning those into a piece of art. Show just went live on iTunes! https://lnkd.in/gQ2mUWT #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more
