Here's a staggering statistic: Truck driver is currently the largest profession in 29 states of the US. Combine that with the fact that we're very likely to see the rapid growth of self-driving trucks on our roads within the next five years and it's clear that a millions of jobs (both directly and indirectly) will potentially disappear from this one profession alone. As the impact of automation and technology on millions of jobs is only going to increase, maybe it's time to disrupt the entire idea of work as we know it? …see more
The Wharton School ‘s new Dean Erika James talks to David Gelles at the New York Times about how she is helping the school refresh its approach to business education. When asked, ‘How do you expect Wharton will change during your tenure?’, Dean James answers, ‘I don’t think we can just assume that because we’re Wharton we can just rest on our laurels and say, we’ll always be safe. We have to be mindful that our competition is not just other business schools. Our competition is complacency, and when you’re the best, it is very easy to become complacent. So one of the things that I hope that my tenure as dean will do is to motivate us to think about how do we want to define business education in the future, and not only rely on what we’ve done in the past. I think the fact that I’m Wharton’s first female dean means there are likely going to be differences in how I engage with our alumni and with our students and with our faculty that are reflective of who I am as a woman at this level in business education. There just aren’t a lot of us.’ #leadership #education #businessschools #MBA …see more
I'm very pleased to share this brand new episode of our newly relaunched podcast, McKinsey on China. Back in December 2011, when podcasts were still fairly nascent and not yet a "thing," we launched McKinsey on China with the hope of shedding light on what was then--and today is even more--one of the biggest economic stories of the 21st century: the rise of China. After consistently publishing episodes from 2011 through to 2017, we took a pause to focus on other priorities. But now we're back! In this brand new episode, Nick Leung, Chairman of McKinsey Greater China, chats with Jonathan Woetzel, Director of the McKinsey Global Institute in Asia, and Gordon Orr, former Asia Chairman of McKinsey and now senior advisor to the firm, about the state of the Chinese economy. Banking is really splitting into digital wallets and serious secure bank accounts , a far more user friendly current account vs savings accounts. In most ways neobanks are just the worst elements of either. Not sure the markers have realized that. Consumers have.
Time has never felt less important and space never more. Memorial Day, time of day, month , all irrelevant. And suddenly if you are 4 or 6ft from someone it matters, and if you are in Georgia or New York or Sydney or Cape Town , Stockholm or San Francisco life feels entirely different. It’s like another world
“Though holidays, symbols, statues, and flags matter, it will take more than increased recognition of Juneteenth to combat racism. If not followed with substantive change, the relatively recent scramble to acknowledge Juneteenth will just feel like virtue signaling, acts of solidarity that ring hollow.” …see more
