The Harvard Business School study shows employees from 600 US companies reported they are finding their routines and enjoy #remotework while productivity measures improve. “Personally I'm always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught.” Winston Churchill Take for example the ‘new thing’ we’ve all had to learn about face coverings: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says "everyone should wear a cloth face cover when they have to go out in public" to help slow the spread of the Corona Virus. Mind you almost 70,000 Americans have died of this disease so far. And yet, some people just don’t want to learn. The response in the city of Stillwater Oklahoma which is requiring citizens to wear face coverings (like so many other states), threatened store employees with physical violence and showered with verbal abuse. Learning and ‘being taught’ new things is at the core of advancement—or ourselves and for our country. And to my way of thinking, learning new things is foundational to the American Experience and what makes this country unique among others. So, when did American Exceptionalism turn into ignoring science, fact and honoring The Self over Others? Here’s what I learned as a child that was hard-taught but that still works today: ‘Be kind and considerate of others, and don’t be a selfish idiot,’ and you will be loved by your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors. BREAKING - Chinese firm tries to steal biodata of Americans through COVID tests? We might not need hackers anymore for a full-blown privacy breach. The Chinese BGI Group is the world’s largest biotech firm, which offered to build and run coronavirus testing labs to various states in the US. COVID-19 gave a momentum for designers who have to come up with solutions to unprecedented issues in a really short amount of time. I especially liked the Steam nurse, a smart locker that cleans the clothes of hospital staff. I just watched the analysis of the final game in the top computer chess competition where Leela Zero (an open source chess program based on #AlphaZero ) beat Stockfish. As someone who spends 2-3 hours every day learning chess, it's incredible to see a program play such a beautiful game. Imagine how amazed the world's best diagnosticians will be when they have to analyze how a reinforcement learning-based algorithm cured a patient or solved a case. They will have to find out how the algorithm came to a solution by itself without studying medicine but by mining an awful amount of data. That is going to be the real era of the art of medicine!
