It’s incredibly easy to have negative associations with advancements in technology -- especially around distraction. “Social media has us more distracted than ever before.” “Big companies have hijacked our attention.” If you find yourself falling into his line of thinking, it’s important to remember developments in technology don’t happen in a vacuum. We are currently in one of the safest times in American history. We’re experiencing record lows for truancy, drug use, murder, you name it. It’s no coincidence that this prosperity coincides with advancements in technology. And think about it, if social media or smartphones disappeared tomorrow, would that eliminate distraction entirely? Would we automatically become more productive? Of course not! More than anything, discussions around the role of tech require nuance. Do you hate fried chicken? 🍗 When you say about branding, you can think of how you remember most of the Marvel heroes. Iron Man and his red electromechanical suit. Thor and his hammer. Hulk and his big green body. Spiderman and his, uh, web powers. This is called “visual association”. We are remembered with what’s unique with us or what we do best. With Marvel people, their superpowers are mostly their visual associations. For businesses, they are remembered with their expertise – tech, fast food. Or their logos – a bitten apple, a big yellow “M”. You want to associate and trigger these memories or emotions. Personal branding is MY SUPERPOWER. And I associate it with FRIED CHICKEN because I like it so much! Now, I want you to have that “Ding!” moment when you see 🍗 passing by KFC. Or even when you or your aunty fries the best 🍗 at home The visual cues of your favourite brands are easier to keep in mind when looking at different options in the market.
