Getting a lot of requests to do podcasts these days. I don’t do many as think it’s better others have a chance to speak. But if you are inviting me or many other people, here are some tips. I hope useful Most important... 1) I’m drawn to interesting conversations, topics and by people who challenge and probe me. I don’t like softball questions or the same boring questions. Explain what you want to talk about/give example questions. 2) A demo clip.Take the time to make a little reel showing some of your best bits. I want to see decent production values, that you take the privilege of having people listen seriously. I want to hear your tone, ideally be challenging, high energy and tempo perhaps be a bit funny/subversive.We all need to laugh Less important 3)It’s useful to get a sense of viewer/ listener numbers. Not because the numbers matter, but it helps cement the notion you are taking this seriously/want to produce something of quality. I don’t promote many of my podcast appearances on social media because it would seem self important and boring, but it would be nice to think more than just your friends will listen to it Lastly, far the least important thing 3)Other speakers. At Netflix , we used the Brand Attributes to shape how we wrote and how we designed. Brand Attributes are the tone/voice of everything a company does. And not just copywriting but visuals as well. And no, not everything created on behalf of, or by, a company has to have all of them expressed at once. But it better have at least one. Below are the Netflix Brand Attributes that were in place for my entire 11-year run working there: Smart – Not smart aleck. We talk to people, not down to people Human – We’re one-on-one. We’re personal, not corporate. Straightforward – We are simple and easy, not terse or clinical. Enthusiastic – But not “salesy”. Challenger – Not maverick, but we are a little irreverent. Trustworthy – We are substantial, reliable, and stable. You can see how some of those played out visually and in copy in this old worksheet of buttons used for email and the non-member site from around 2007. Everything about the buttons from the use of the Gotham font, to the rounded corners, to the language used, was guided by those Brand Attributes. …see more

Everyone is talking about how remote work is the future. Google and Facebook are telling employees to expect to work remotely until 2021. Twitter said that it is going remote permanently. One of the keys to making this work will likely be augmented reality, virtual reality, and the ability to collaborate by knitting the two together.
