Put your pitchforks away folks, this is A/B testing and it goes on all the time. Promotional videos for other Netflix shows are being shown to a small test group. Most people (the "control" group) will not see the videos. If it increases value for customers, and causes no increase in churn (members canceling), in the test group, it will be rolled out to everyone. If not it will simply be shut down. Also important to keep in mind is that these are not ads from outside companies like TV ads are, they are “ads” for other Netflix shows. If it helps, think of this as merchandising. You know how every time you log in to Netflix you see a bunch of cover art? Those pieces of cover art aren't there randomly, they're being merchandised to you based on an entire host of personalization data. Same goes for who see what "ads." #netflix #advertising #ott #streaming #personalization #merchandising #abtesting …see more

“Our review showed that tokens have higher levels of depression and stress. They’re more likely to experience discrimination and sexual harassment than women and racial minorities who are working in more balanced environments. Research shows people are less satisfied and less committed at their jobs if they’re tokens. Companies should be concerned about this." #diversity #inclusion #KellyeMedia #discrimination #blacklivesmatter #racism #gender #career …see more
When companies hire high achievers, imposter syndrome can run rampant — people constantly feel like frauds. Imposter syndrome can have a real impact on business, and leaders need to proactively fend it off, according to Julia Wuench, founder of The Authenticity Guide, a positive-psychology-based career and executive coaching firm. Leaders should be vulnerable, and they should help employees to realize they often know the solutions to their problems. Further, create a culture where questions are encouraged and valued. #gender #work #leadership #management #communication #KellyeMedia …see more

How women communicate at work, at home, even to each other, is largely affected by how they know they will be perceived by the public. And by public I mean, to a large degree, men. It's part of our conditioning. This piece from the NYT reminded me how ridiculous the social expectations around expressing female emotions are, how aggressively persistent is the message that female anger is unacceptable. It also brings home one very important fact that usually gets lost in society's efforts to squash or discredit female anger: "No woman’s anger is an island." …see more

Just when I thought I knew everything I needed to know about what men must do to stop #genderbasedviolence , I have the incredible privilege of meeting Harish Sadani , the co-Founder of Men Against Violence and Abuse (MAVA) in #Mumbai , #India . Harish is among India’s leading gender rights activists, and has been working tirelessly for over the past 26 years to educate men about improving women’s sexual and reproductive health. Harish co-founded MAVA – Men Against Violence and Abuse - in 1993 to prevent gender-based violence of women by engaging and mentoring boys and men on healthy relationships, masculinity, and sexuality. It's been a pleasure getting to learn more about his work during The Aspen Institute 2020 New Voices Fellowship workshop in Nairobi. I am always so energized when I learn about #technology advances that could lead to greater #healthcare access for people who need it most. That's why I'm posting about the Philips Lumify Portable Ultrasound App. As the world's first of its kind, the app brings diagnostic capabilities to compatible smartphones or handheld devices. When I think of all the pregnant women in developing countries around the world who live in remote, hard to reach areas, this news just makes me happy. Let's hope national governments make the sustainably smart decision to incorporate this kind of #innovation into their healthcare strategies. #Philips #Lumify #telemedicine #reproductivehealth #reproductivemedicine #womenshealth #globalhealth #tech #SDGs #HealthForAll https://lnkd.in/eewXDSf …see more
The last time the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) conference was held in #Detroit was 1992, the year I began working as a feature writer at the Detroit Free Press . At the Freep, a very tall, very dynamic man named Bob McGruder always used to talk to me like I was his professional peer. He was Managing Editor, and he looked and sounded like my eldest brother David. He made me stop being intimidated by his presence, because to McGruder, if you were in his newsroom you were supposed to be there, so you better act like it. He believed in me, and he made me believe in myself. When I was offered an editorial writing job in Des Moines, Bob McGruder told me that was not the path I should take. And he offered me a nice raise to stay, so I took it. A few months later, when Bill Laitner went on sabbatical, Bob McGruder asked me to fill in as the Freep Health and Fitness Columnist. If McGruder thought I could do it, it must be true. Bob McGruder was a pioneer, a literal and figurative giant, a man with saw through you to the core of who you could and should be. I am honored beyond words to have attended his Memorial celebration yesterday, and to witness his tribute at the #NABJ18 Gala. #NABJ #MeetMeInTheD #journalism #legacy #mentoring …see more
June 4th is the United Nations International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. "Children need peace and protection at all times. The rules of war prohibit the unlawful targeting of civilians, attacks on schools or hospitals, the use, recruitment and unlawful detention of children, and the denial of humanitarian assistance. When conflicts break out, these rules need to be respected and those who break them need to be held to account. Enough is enough. Stop attacks on children."
