The key to successful communities is in the conversations. Conversations on social platforms like LinkedIn is visibility. Conversations for communities is a good metric for meaningful engagement. Other good community metrics to live by: 🍗 how many members refer in new members 🍗 how content is generated by members 🍗 the NPS (net positive score) If you like to lead one, you must have a hundred and one ways to engage your members. How do you create meaningful conversations between members? How do you foster a sense of belonging? How do you create bonding experiences? What's the common mission or interest? Clubhouse has these mechanisms. So does Facebook Groups. Not so much LinkedIn Groups, like because people spam stuff in Li-Groups. Many of my clients are gainst Facebooks because the data and Zuck. Still, it's a great free community tool. It's a great way to counter paid advertising. #stringspeed on #community #socialmedia …see more

Ready to do BIG THINGS in the new year? Here are 6 Mindset Changes to make in order to HAVE IT ALL in 2021 ⬇ 1. STOP FEARING FAILURE: Before we set out on a new undertaking, many of us are beset by doubts about our abilities. We’re apprehensive and hesitant to try something different than what we’ve grown used to doing. 2. HANDLE TOXIC EMOTIONS: Guard against the toxic emotions that others may bring into your orbit. That takes intention and constant effort. 3. QUIT TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYONE: Trying to please everyone is like trying to bottle the ocean. Practice self-love, self-awareness, and self-confidence. 4. TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED: No matter how self-motivated or driven we may be, our lives are constantly being shaped by external forces. 5. BE OKAY WITH IMPERFECTION: Paradoxically, it’s only by embracing imperfection that we maximize our chances of success. 6. DISMOUNT YOUR HIGH HORSE: There’s a word for not knowing: Ignorance. We can be skillfully ignorant by acknowledging that it’s a complex, maybe even opaque world we’re just setting foot in. That simple recognition can help us get our bearings, providing a framework for expanding our knowledge base before striding forward. I count myself fortunate to have spent time with Brooklyn-born Arnold Packer. Arnold was the Assistant Secretary for Policy, Evaluation, and Research in the U.S. Department of Labor during the Carter administration. His insights and innovative thinking around economics, employment and training policies helped many people, particularly young people to reach their full potential. Arnold passed away aged 85 in mid-October. The last project we were working up with my colleage Ervin Dimeny was around verified resumes. Thanks to the Urban Institute report by Robert Lerman Daniel Kuehn and Pamela Loprest - wonderful insights into the topic. Love to hear your thoughts on #verifiedresumes - join the conversation. Stay safe. #research #training …see more
No-one can be sure how America will ‘snap back’ after the danger of COVID-19 passes. But, we do know skills such as numeracy, literacy, manufacturing and healthcare will always be valued and needed. My thoughts on two ways to pivot off existing approaches to meld a way forward. Read the full article here https://lnkd.in/exKRtb6 Thanks to Training Industry, Inc. …see more

Here is the link to a piece I just wrote on how little things educators do (often unintentionally) affect students for decades. Slight slights can have a lasting impact. Games we play with children also message badly. We need to pause and reflect on the power of little things --- despite the realization that big things happen too. Suggestions offered within the piece and there is a spot for readers to reflect on their own experiences and childhood games. https://lnkd.in/eQPEifz …see more
Giraffes are facing extinction. Seriously. June 21 is World Giraffe Day. How many people knew that? Releasing my co-branded and co-authored book of giraffe jokes (and facts) with amazing photographs of my giraffe collection on that date. A percentage of the proceeds go to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation. Many of the photographed giraffes (in all sizes, shapes and materials) will be auctioned off this summer, with a sizable percentage of the proceeds going to buy the book for kids and for the Giraffe Conservation Foundation. Watch for longer LINKEDIN blog on the educational value of jokes and how to help kids read, understand and create them. There is a whole program for parents/teachers to use on the book's website: www.ladylucysquest.com . Giraffe book is available at Northshire Books and Amazon. Laugh to learn is the motto. …see more

W/ all the tragedies surrounding us (hurricanes, earthquakes, Las Vegas massacre among them), I simply don't understand how the Cabinet Secretaries are behaving. They're "flying high" as if intoxicated by power. It is costing taxpayers, taking time and attention away from real problems and solutions. Consider these examples: visiting Mermaid sculpture in Denmark, attending the Women's Final at Wimbledon (w/ one's wife + others), cruising down rivers, seeing the Eclipse (but not admitting that goal), flights on private/gov/military transport. Tell me: why is this acceptable? Why has only Dr. Price resigned? Apology anyone? How would wounded Vets feel if they knew what Dr. Shulkin was doing abroad for 10 days? How would Vets whose families fell apart post-deployment feel knowing their leader was, on gov. dime, enjoying time w/ his spouse abroad? How would those w/o food, water, roads and bridges in PR feel about Secretaries using improper transport? I think we need to deal w/ this racket. Seriously, let's have a "Take a Racket to Work Day." Everyone in and out of government brings a tennis racket to work, symbolic of Dr. Shulkin's tennis boondoggle and the absurdity of how Secretaries are behaving amidst real crises in the world. A protest w/ power. …see more
Watch for forthcoming piece on President's tweets on NFL and why these tweets should have us so worried. Ask: what is the intended diversion they are pro ducting and pause and reflect on history too. More later today or early tomorrow. How we express dissent can take many forms. Businesses need to listen up -- as has the NFL owners.
On March 3, 2016, I was invited by communications chair and media professor Jennifer Wager of Essex County College in Newark, NJ to speak to students about social media engagement and offer blogging tips. Here's 3 tips: 1. Create original content rather than post links and other people's pictures. 2. Develop a catchy tagline to your blog and hashtag it to establish what will be your digital signature. 3. Use other works of art like books, poems, TV shows, songs and other material to grow or extend ideas. …see more
