An interesting science fiction book and the first part of a series. Not my cup of tea but the issue around living with an alien species raises many questions and challenges we should all face in our lives in time. It's worth a shot if you like scifi books focusing on topics around the future of society. Of all the hundreds (if not thousands) of science fiction movies I've seen, the most terrifying idea for me was in Soylent Green when they described how vegetables vanished from Earth. No alien invasion or evil technology depicted in those movies had an impact on my well-being than thinking about a life without vegetables. What was the most terrifying idea in science fiction for you? #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #book #reading #read …see more
It seems my paper on why there is no precision medicine without artificial intelligence is getting some good traction from other papers. I argue that the cast amount of data digital health technologies generate cannot be analyzed simply by human beings but by human beings augmented by artificial intelligence. Lately, we hear a lot about people leaving Facebook for privacy reasons (e.g. Dave deBronkart ), but also for "detoxifying" from the social media environment. That's also true in the case of Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn. Some go for weekends, where they are not allowed to use their smartphones, look at e-mails or social media sites. Have you considered leaving any of the social media channels or the entire online space for shorter or longer periods of time? a) I left Facebook, but only for privacy reasons b) I decided to only use one channel instead of many. c) I set daily/weekly limits to social media use. d) I considered leaving the entire social media space but haven't done so far. e) I'm not thinking about leaving. #digitalhealth #poll #socialmedia …see more

THE 9/11 AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER: Chris Tucker was the air traffic controller on 9/11 working NYC flights. When he saw the two planes heading to NYC he had to make life-altering decisions. Decisions that affected 1000s of people or more. He had to make those decisions under the harshest of stresses. He came on my podcast and the conversation was riveting. He is a part of the history of 9/11. I encourage people to listen to this episode. To hear how he made these decisions. To understand at a deeper level what was happening that day.
