The Hippocratic Oath is the most famous text in Western medicine and constitutes the ethical basis of the medical profession. For centuries, it has provided an overview of the principles of this noble mission and doctors’ professional behavior. At the dawn of a new era in medicine, it is high time to rewrite the Oath so that it would reflect the state of technological development, changes in social structures and in general, the requirements of the 21st century. I am a caregiver and just spent the past 2 hours on the telephone with Medicare and a supplemental insurance company (starts with an M ends with a A) because said insurance company didn't disenroll my mother when she moved to another state 4 months ago. I called to let them know of the move when it occurred as well as notifying Medicare and SSA. Now her doctor is unable to see her unless she pays out of her own pocket because this supplemental plan is an obstacle and preventing her from getting the new plan in her new state.
