A new short film from Pixar’s SparkShorts program is well done, but it makes me sad that we have to pitch cartoons to try and get some men to accept their female coworkers in the workplace. #stereotypes #work #gender #bias

In late 2019, I started working with Global Press Journal reporter Noella Nbihogo on her story about the #indigenous Pygmy people living on Idjwi Island, located in Lake Kivu near the Democratic Republic of Congo. Noella's story highlighted the discrimination and gross inequity that Pygmies endured. In late 2020, through my role as a communications consultant with the Emerson Collective , I have the privilege of supporting Dr. Jacques Sebisaho, MD, MPA , who was born on Idjwi Island and who established the Amani Global Works network of health care facilities that was originally created to address the healthcare access challenges for the Pygmy people. By helping Jacques strengthen his brand and amplify his mission of #healthequity , I have come full circle as an #AfricanAmerican journalist who keeps #Africa at the center of my heart. Let Jacques himself tell you more about his project, in this presentation at The Aspen Institute 's 2014 Ideas Health festival. #globalhealth #globaldevelopment #DialFellows #EmersonCollective #HealthForAll #indigenouspeoples #indigenoushealth #healthcareaccess …see more
For #WednesdayWisdom , always be ready to improve your #skillsets . If you’d told me in January 2020 that I would have to learn how to moderate a panel discussion over Zoom —let’s just say I wouldn’t have believed you. I had only just mastered the skill of logging into the darned app! I was still agonizing over the weekly journalists’ meetings I had to lead, with reporters in Uganda and Mexico and Mongolia. I longed to just get through one of those meetings without a technical meltdown. But when that job was in my rear view window, I couldn’t predict what the future held, as far as my interaction with #video was concerned. So when the 92nd Street Y in New York asked me to lead a virtual discussion about #socialisolation during #COVID19 , I accepted eagerly. I still need to get the whole eye contact thing figured out, but I'm so proud of how far I’ve come with embracing technology, in just one year. #skilldevelopment #moderating #paneldiscussion #skillbuilding …see more
