Ever wondered why some countries are more entrepreneurial than others? It comes down to culture. "Swedish culture is a lot about the Jante Law which basically says that you should keep up with Joneses, but not more." I have the distinct pleasure of interviewing David Rogier of MasterClass What do you want to know? What one question would you pose?
Having interviewed over 300 founders and learning what some of them went through, I was worried about how we sell-in failure to our kids. So I decided to look into the concept more deeply, and this is what I found... feat. comment from Björn Jeffery of Toca Boca Jessica Butcher MBE of Blippar Dhiraj Mukherjee of Shazam Joe Cohen of Seatwave and Tom "Hersh" Hershenson of General Magic https://lnkd.in/gpwYrBe #founders #failure #success #entrepreneur #startup …see more
"One day I decided to tell my grandfather that I stuttered and was being teased in school for it. He gave me a hug and said — “So? You going to let that stop you?” In his eyes, if you weren’t in Auschwitz… you’re OK." David Rogier , MasterClass https://lnkd.in/gQkrNMW #founder #education #entrepreneur #innovation …see more
Nothing vast enters the life of mortals without a curse. - Sophocles Has anyone else watched The Social Dilemma? It’s a fascinating insight into the habits we are encouraged to pick up as a result of social media. I must admit, at first I thought this would just be a one-sided attack on big tech but I have to say, whilst I’m only half way through it, it is actually a really interesting look into how these habits have been formed over time, despite the better intention of some of tech’s founders. Well worth a watch - includes interviews with many great tech innovators from Facebook, Pinterest, Google, Twitter et al. Happy birthday to the incredible Dame Stephanie Shirley who is 87 years young today 🎉 From child refugee fleeing Nazi Germany to building one of the most successful tech businesses of its generation in her adopted home of England. Dame Stephanie is a pioneer who made herself and many of her nearly all-female staff millionaires when she sold her tech company. A still-active speaker, she inspires many and continues to champion founders, and autism charities through her busy philanthropic work. You can find my interview with Dame Stephanie on @youtube as well as in my book - Female Innovators at Work. We discuss her life as a child refugee escaping Nazi Germans and fleeing to the U.K. before she fell in love with tech and became hugely successful. We look at the lessons she has learned in life and work and how she became such an inspiring pioneer despite working in such a male-dominated field. Dame Stephanie also has her own book out - Let It Go - which is an incredible read. Many happy returns to an amazing woman. …see more
I honestly think this is incredible. Lawyer Robert Kardasian died young of cancer. In fact, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in July 2003 and had died just two months later. His kids were 16, 19, 23 and 24. Kanye organised this hologram message for Kim’s 40th and I think it’s amazing. We know this tech is being worked on and we’ve seen holograms used for concerts but I think this next-level. Being able to connect with loved ones who have passed on is so special. And I think this literally brings them to life. I think it’s fantastic ♥️ 🎥 Kim Kardashian #hologram #tech #kanyewest #innovation …see more

Facebook, the Partnership on AI, Microsoft, and academics from Cornell Tech, MIT, University of Oxford, UC Berkeley, University of Maryland, College Park, and University at Albany-SUNY are coming together to build the Deepfake Detection Challenge (DFDC). Facebook is commissioning a realistic data set that will use paid actors, with the required consent obtained, to contribute to the challenge. The goal is to create a benchmark data set that will help developers build better deepfake detection tools. Everyone should applaud this effort. Deepfakes are going to be used extensively for both good and bad reasons. Deepfake detection is an enduring arms race that will truly never end. In case you are wondering: No. This technology will not be able to protect the 2020 election from deepfakes. Nothing in our science is up to that task. …see more
Unboxing the new, improved, ready-for-primetime Galaxy Fold was delightful, and the phone does not disappoint. The Fold is featured-packed, but at $1,980 retail, it’s not for everybody. Think about this...
Think about this... No one will be shocked or surprised to learn that We Company filed to withdraw its IPO. CEO Adam Neumann is out, and the new team needs some time and privacy to turn WeWork around – if that is even possible. Others have covered the financial mess, so I won’t rehash it here. But, as a (soon to be former) WeWork customer, I can speak to the very narrow use case WeWork spaces solves for. …see more

PSA: Do not be confused by QSNATCH's cute name. It tunnels into your network attached storage device and destroys your data. It’s not ransomware, and it’s not targeted at anyone in particular — this virus is like a biological virus — it’s just out in the wild. If it infects your drives, they die. …see more
