Moving the federal tax deadline from April 15 to July 15 created a cash flow problem for firms. The influx of revenue from returns moved to mid-year, forcing firms to reassess their cash-on-hand. They also considered how to change the way they do business so cash flows into the firm year-round. There is a way to do this — if you’re willing to become a radical firm. http://ow.ly/PpCl50CB4oV #radicalcpa #cch #axcess #cpas #accountants #techtools …see more

Watch for a longer piece on Intergeneration trauma, an effect of the Pandemic that has not been addressed in any depth to my knowledge to date. What got me started is this article: https://lnkd.in/e6YcE3t . That then pushed me back to a book which I had read and found deeply informative on microglia and their role in trauma: The Angel and the Assassin. With all the trauma abounding, we should start worrying about intergenerational transmission of trauma -- and we have reason from the past to be worrying now. …see more

Some very good ideas — especially open space use and student engagement. Where is the effort to deal with psychosocial needs of students (and faculty and staff)? Can’t open without recognizing this need in my view. For more, see https://lnkd.in/eCgEc8J . We don’t like the word “trauma” as it suggests victimization and weakness when in reality, it is neither. It is a word that if we can name it, we can then tame its symptomology. …see more

Seems so odd to “celebrate” our nation when it is plagued with the pandemic, racial tensions, unemployment and cross-sector uncertainty. It would be like celebrating a person’s birthday who is struggling with depression. Here’s another oddity: I wrote a book on the impact of trauma on children and their education. That was written pre-pandemic although it was edited to include the pandemic during the page proof stage. It does deal with racial and sexual discrimination and micro aggressions. The book’s efforts to create trauma responsive institutions has added and new meaning, augmenting its import. Sadly, Trauma Doesn’t Stop at the School Door is a book for our time. And it can help, which gives me solace. Amazon book stock is running low but there’s an ebook discounted. Teachers College Press has the paperback and ebook (also discounted). Perhaps the book will give you hope; it does that for me. For the 4th, hope is a good theme. Better perhaps than fireworks. Who needs bangs and booms now when we see experiencing bangs and booms daily, most with no sound? …see more

I am worried that we are not handling the messaging related to the coronavirus well for children in schools/educational institutions. We may be exacerbating not alleviating trauma. Watch for new post with suggestions for educators. We don't want fear and anxiety. We don't want discrimination against students of certain origins. We don't want separation worries and we need object constancy. Will offer ideas based on my forthcoming book that can be pre-ordered, Trauma Doesn't Stop at the School Door (June 2020) Reach out to Teachers College Press at https://www/tcpress.com/karen-gross . There are group discounts too. And steep discounts if I present in person or via SKYPE, Zoom or Facetime or similar access means. Contact Michael McGann at the press for these discounts. Watch for post with concrete suggestions. …see more

I have always believed rules are made to be broken -- not all rules, not all the time. But, there is a time for rule breaking. We can come up with examples, including civil disobedience. Here is another example: breaking a rule for decency and for caring. The fact that this student was kicked out of school is enough to make my blood boil. Read this. Ask: what were the adults in charge thinking. Oops. They weren't thinking and that's the problem. …see more
