This is a fantastic essay on the 3 stages of failure which apply to personal life, work life, and even startups. It is well worth a read. Maybe on your lunch break or on the commute (if you're not driving).
The Bloomberg campaign spent a small fortune on TV advertising in Super Tuesday states. Here are my thoughts on what companies can learn from that mistake. #Marketing #Advertising #brandmarketing #bloomberg2020 #blooomberg #brandadvertising …see more
Companies need to stop creating fake differentiation. Much like how AT&T 's 5GE is in fact not 5G at all, it appears that The Walt Disney Company 's Disney+ HDR content isn't actually HDR. However minor these lies may seem, they are still lies. And it erodes consumer trust not only in their own brands but in all brands regardless of whether they are behaving this way or not. #brand #branding #marketing #disneyplus #atandt #brandtrust …see more
A lot of people I know were up in arms yesterday when they heard about former Netflix er, Mike Cessario 's Liquid Death Mountain Water raising $1.6M. Here's the thing, I think it's a pretty smart move. He's basically launched a brand that fills a need in the marketplace (regardless if it speaks to me) and it is taking advantage of a consumer trend that is just beginning to swell. #business #water #beverages #trends #liquiddeath #businessstrategy #netflix …see more
CB Insights has compiled a pretty good list of regrettable quotes made by executives about the competition over the years. The takeaway? Don't dismiss competition, pay attention to why you're being asked about them. #netflix #blockbuster #microsoft #apple #competition #leadership …see more
I've long-said that customers don't buy "disruption." They also don't buy "innovation." What they buy is a better experience or solution to their problem. This is a great write up by Matt LeMay on how Gibson Guitar Corporation 's obsession with innovation (and not customers) and how it drove it them into bankruptcy. …see more
Interesting read on Double Insight, the company that makes the hugely popular Instapot. How they went from zero to everywhere with no VC money and very little marketing. The secret? Amazon .
Pitch perfect social media management by KFC . They even had the 'Colonel' connect with this guy on LinkedIn. May seem silly but it is perfectly on-brand.
When I was at Netflix , some wanted Netflix to become a verb (DVD days) - this is why we always pushed back. #brand
While VR is interesting, I am of the opinion that AR is going to get massive relatively soon. I also think that all this talk about "mobile" will quickly dissolve because suddenly anywhere and anything can be an interaction point.
There's a dark monster, a huge deflationary force, embedded deep inside our economy. We've been distracted by financial crises, scandals, and pandemics to notice it. This is why we can't raise inflation to 2%... We need to understand it because it will turn our world upside down. When the world settles down it will be either an earthly paradise or a new type of living hell. We're good at doing the latter to each other. https://lnkd.in/gmj5xAK …see more
Poverty will become unconscionable just as slavery became in the 19th century. We can give everyone safe place to live, safe water, safe food, safe schools, a safe future. We have enormous productive capacities that we have to reign-in to bolster market prices yet it costs so little. In another ten years our manufacturing capacities will be even greater. If we can end poverty it's completely immoral not to do it. …see more

So there’s this new show called the Outer Banks about a girl named Kiara who grew up there, which is ironic because that’s my name and I grew up at the Outer Banks 😅 But I can’t lie, I definitely would have been a Kook! (you know what this means if you watched the show lol) I had fun reviewing this show, it took me back! #obx #outerbanks #tvwriter #tvreview …see more
"I wear makeup for the same reasons I watch Netflix, drink coffee, and eat Chipotle — it makes me happy. Maybe that makes me basic, or maybe it doesn’t. But I like what I like."
