Great advice for #B2B #marketing from Lee Odden "While there will be a period of adjustment, these changes do not mean the work stops. It doesn’t mean companies don’t need information, solutions, support, products and services. The evolving environment we find ourselves in presents new challenges and opportunities to be even more relevant and useful for clients. While some companies may be distracted or paused in some of their efforts to find solutions, that only means marketing needs to do a better job of providing best answer content in formats that are relevant in the new environment: virtual events, video conferencing, podcasts, webinars, interactive content, recorded video, live streaming and other forms of online engagement. Virtual reality or direct mail are considerations as well. During this time of transition, it’s also important that marketers review their planned advertising, social and marketing messages to be appropriate to what customers are dealing with right now. Publishing marketing messages as if everything is normal will not resonate or be useful." …see more

I met Jaqi (Jacqueline) Saleem a decade ago here in Boston. Now, she's growing one of the most talented digital customer experience agencies, Qualified Digital. The truth is, she started the agency by accident. Read her story, and 3 uncommon principles that guide her and the team every day. My favorite: "We hire human beings first – people who are comfortable making mistakes and who treat each other well. People who are willing to work on a team that helps one another. People who, yes, are exceptional practitioners but first and foremost are honest, kind, resilient human beings. Digital is what we do, but human beings are who we are at our core and who we serve with the experiences we create." …see more

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Valerie Beaulieu-James , CMO and GM of Microsoft US. https://lnkd.in/eEjx_iW I asked, from her conversations with #marketing leaders across the country, what the top challenges are for today's #B2B #CMO . Her response: 1. Customer expectations shaped by their consumer experiences 2. Board pressure to understand the path to growth 3. Embracing modern marketing across the team. I was especially moved by her passion for the downstream impact marketing can have for customers and her advice for all leaders. "We often view waiting as a non-decision. It's often the easiest because it seemingly doesn't require commitment. But it is a decision with a trade-off. Leaders of any size team know the organization incurs huge cost for that indecision: lost productivity. Everyone waits." …see more

While Burger King is known for launching unconventional ad campaigns, this one seems surprisingly tone-deaf. The majority of McDonald's and The Wendy's Company locations are own by franchisees. Dunking on the misfortunes of SMBs is never a good look but it is an even worse idea given what is happening in the economy. Not to mention that when a property gets abandoned like this it drags down the morale of the community it's in. Very disappointing. h/t to David Griner for highlighting this on Twitter. #marketing #branding #brand #fastfood #advertising #fastfoods #adcampaign #burgerking #mcdonalds #wendys …see more

I've heard people say, "It is important for brands to build a relationship with customers" and others say, "People don't want a relationship with brands." So, which is it? Well, they're both right and they're both wrong. If you ask consumers if they're looking to build a relationship with a brand they will likely say, "no." Yet, one of the key components of brand is to solve a problem for consumers in a way that has an emotional component such that they build a connection to the brand. At Netflix , our brand promise was "Movie enjoyment made easy." Notice how it focuses on 'enjoyment'? That was intentional. If had been rooted in 'rental' it would have merely been about the transaction, not the ultimate benefit. If you look at other brands such as Nike you'll notice that their brand isn't entirely about the gear. Or how Starbucks ' brand isn't entirely about coffee. Understanding that emotional, next-level benefit is key to know what your brand needs to be. #brand #brandpositioning #nike #netflix #starbucks #customerrelation #CX #brandbuilding …see more

Given Walmart 's stellar earning's report, one thing is clear. They are finally nailing eCommerce and providing serious competition to Amazon . One reason for this success is their previous acquisition of e-commerce startup Jet . You might think it was just a logistics move. But as Walmart CEO, Doug McMillon , indicates it was also an educated bet that it would attract new shoppers and products to Walmart. Would he make that move again? #walmart #jet #ecommerce #amazon #strategy #mergersandacquisitions #businessstrategy …see more

It's easy to dismiss the latest from OpenAI , GPT-3, as an autocomplete text tool. But within hours someone created a Figma plugin that allowed one to write simple text describing the design they wanted that was then created out in seconds. No designer needed, no coder needed. Another company is having it write headlines vs. a human. And yes, the AI is "winning" Setting aside whether that headline test is properly structured, just these two applications prove that AI can and will move beyond just having AI that writes copy fairly soon. One can imagine GPT-3 connected voice and video applications soon. When that occurs it will fundamentally change almost every job. While it wasn't GPT-3 the Russian design frim, Art. Lebedev Studio , featured in the attached article, used an AI "designer" for a year with no one even noticing. So much of modern life has been defined by humans working. The question is, what do we do when (not if) our work is done for us? #AI #artificialintelligence #gpt3 #openai #figma #art #graphicdesign #coding #future …see more
