I'm getting a bit annoyed that nobody at LinkedIn knows what the site is supposed to be anymore. Which means people don't know how to behave on it. It's inevitably turning into a social network, where the site does all it can to garner interactions, to boost time spent, to sell ads. Yet at the same time recruit paid subscribers, aid networking and close connections. Make your mind up.

One of the best ways to build your emotional intelligence is to practice using your emotional vocabulary. To illustrate... One day you wake up with an intense pain, so you go to the doctor for help. She asks you to describe the pain you’re feeling using any of the following words: sharp, dull, burning, shooting, aching, cramping, gnawing, heavy, splitting, stabbing, nauseating, throbbing, tender. The more specific you get, the easier it will be for your doctor to diagnose the problem and prescribe proper treatment. It works similarly with your emotions: by using specific words to describe your feelings, you can better “diagnose” them—helping you understand where they’re coming from, and why. Are you upset? Angry? Hurt? Betrayed?  By using specific words, you can get to the root cause of your feelings. Then what?  Read more in my new book, "EQ Applied: The Real-World Guide to Emotional Intelligence": https://amzn.to/2sxFLho #EmotionalIntelligence #leadership #management #BestAdvice #careers #BusinessIntelligence #communication #relationships #PersonalDevelopment #EQApplied #MakeEmotionsWorkForYouNotAgainstYou …see more

Today is a very important day that all Americans should pay close attention to. Arguments begin in front of the supreme court because the current department of justice's stance that employers should be able to fire employees based on their gender expression or sexuality. As the CEO of a company, friend to the LGBTQ community, proud mother of a remarkable young woman who happens to be a lesbian and an American who believes in equal rights, I vehemently oppose the discrimination that is being proposed. #today #equalityforall #business #culturematters #humanity …see more

We bemoan the fact that technology is becoming more pervasive and persuasive and complain that our devices are "hijacking" our brains. Hoping and waiting for tech companies to change their products or for your boss to finally respect your time may take longer than you're willing to wait. Distractions may not necessarily be your fault, but they are your responsibility. Click below to read my article on how to equip yourself to manage your distractions. Re the last two posts, I've been asked why economists have continued to lag the damaging realities on the ground. I tried to answer this in last week's Financial Times (link below). And unlike some stock investors, economists can't (very, if not overly) optimistically hope for central bank purchases of stocks, https://lnkd.in/eUSh6VA #economy #financeandeconomy #stocks #markets #economists #ft #investors #investing …see more

Is it any wonder why we are getting sicker as a population? People think twice about getting the care they need when wages may be garnished to pay what the health insurance plan they pay up to $1000 a month won't cover. This has to change.
