Would someone to make an app called “spontaneous”. A way for people who HATE planning to navigate places that offer last minute stays, last second theatre tickets, spare seats on flights, in restaurants, spa bookings, haircuts, any service. If someone offered you $200K, would you use that as seed capital for your startup or use that to pay for an MBA at Harvard? I believe that there is no right or wrong answer to this and it totally depends on a person's current situation and long-term goals. There pros and cons to both options. 1. Starting a company is like jumping off a cliff and assembling a plane on the way down, according to Reid Hoffman. I agree with his analogy. Starting up is hard and too many wrong moves in a row can lead to a crash landing. But many well-executed moves and your startup can soar and succeed. Some people are ok with ambiguity and can thrive in these high risk, high reward environments. 2. Getting an MBA can be compared to spending time sharpening an axe before going to cut a tree. An MBA can help you get a theoretical understanding of business concepts and how to approach situations. But the proof of the pudding is still in execution. [How do I get rid of #NegativeThinking?] ---- This is going to be simple, but it works. And if I don’t do this every day: I sink. I despair. I suffocate on my own negativity. Our brains like to be negative. It actually relieves stress. If something bad happens to you, your stress hormones spike. One way to reduce the stress in the body, believe it or not, is to think negative. This is me: “I lost a lot of money in a business. But it was my partner’s fault!” or…”I’m not able to have good relationships!” Etc. Negativity is an excuse. And so it relieves the stress and, surprisingly, makes you feel better. But positive is better. Positive is a muscle, a habit, something to exercise and practice. I’m negative a lot. I wake up negative. Why me? Why them? Why did this happen? Why why why. So I have to stop myself. I have to say, “5x5 rule” and then I have to act on it. I remind myself of this at least three times a day. …see more

In response to a recent article I wrote on the emotional intelligence of Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian, a reader reached out to share her heart-breaking experience: Beverly Dodd said she worked as a Delta Flight Attendant for fifteen years. Beverly loved her job, but retired early to be home full time with her children. Sadly, Beverly's son passed away last year. After taking some time to mourn, she was ready to re-enter the workforce. But Beverly never made it past the interview stage with the 3rd party recruiting agency Delta was using. Beverly's experience is not the first time I've heard of a potentially ideal candidate, specifically one who has valuable training--and invaluable experience--getting weeded out by recruitment management systems, many of which are automated.
