It was my “first day” yesterday at my new gig. I’ve been around for a while but did the whole HR thing and was given logins for all the new internal technologies. It was a day filled with meetings and new things. In between I sat in an open office near a young professional with couple years of big firm experience, on his day two. We got to briefly chat. We went to dinner with the larger team. When we were saying our goodbyes, he said “You’re going to sit by me tomorrow, right?!” Absolutely, my new friend! I’m sure he doesn’t know how special and comfortable he made me feel. It doesn’t matter if you are 25 or almost 50......change, new expectations and transitions are exciting and unnerving. For #LaborDay2019 , I’m thrilled to share some exciting news. Starting September 30th, I’ll begin my new job as Story Editor for Global Press Journal , the news division of the Global Press Institute . I’ll be working from the DC headquarters with a dynamic team of editors and managers headed by Cristi Hegranes , whose experience as a foreign correspondent in #Nepal led her to conclude that in many countries, women are best positioned to tell the critically important stories of their nations' development. The links below have more info about my new adventure, but here’s the most important message I can share: Hold on to your dreams. Name them and claim them. When I stepped off that plane from #Nairobi in May of 2016, I affirmed that I wanted a job that would be based in Washington, DC, but that would allow me to continue mentoring and editing foreign journalists. Three years later, I’ll be helping women journalists in 28 countries and counting develop their story pitches and produce groundbreaking international coverage.
