Tech companies sending me nostalgic reminders of “this is what you were doing last year” is all the proof that you need that they are run by absolute sociopaths, with a single minded goal of driving and optimizing engagement with scant regard for the damage that may come of it. I’m very very lucky to have been having a nice time, and to be excited about the future. But A little thought to how much agony this may cause doesn’t seem hard. Even embracing the possibilities of now and being comfortable with a temporarily slower life, watching massive sporting events on TV or huge music festivals, or films with busy cities causes me an emotion I can’t explain.
