The living room for most was always the largest room in the house and the most social. For millennia the focal point was the fireplace/hearth, and you knew it, because furniture pointed at it, heat was everything. The TV changed that and central heating was invented, the new dominant feature was a window onto the world and shared experiences. A new thing to point furniture at. I've not had a TV for years. Screens are on laps, in hands, they are consumed by one at a time, shared experiences but with others far away. So what becomes the focus of the modern day living room? We don't really know. It's one of those little moments that shines a light into the slightly confused time we live in. Life in the modern era isn't that complex or fast changing, it's just a bit lost.
