The Silicon Valley obsession with "Inbox zero" is all wrong, it should be accomplishment maximization Be held to account by what you are trying to accomplish not by your inbox. Rory Sutherland calls emails " A things to list that anyone can add to", he's right. It's easier as you get more senior, but the more you can spend your time proactively, directly making things happen, the more you're able to not feel vulnerable in the cult of email. A lot of 2020 feels like gamification of work, meetings, email and other discrete numbers we obsess over. It's often progress that doesn't matter, but that has a hardness, specificity, and objectivity to it. Get comfortable with vague feelings of progress towards something meaningful. If there were going to be numbers that mattered it should be how many decisions you've made, or how many things you've said no to.
