I’d guess over 99% of data that is collected is done so without any thought as to what it should be used for. It’s done because we’ve been told it’s valuable, because it’s cheap to get, cheap(ish) to store, and the hope is one day we’ll be glad we have it. Data is like water , too much and not clean enough is a far greater problem than drought. As boring as it sounds, giving some thought to what decisions we’re making from it, how best to capture it, what format to use, how to clean it , how to share, how to keep safe, who owns it, where it’s stored?
