I spend a lot of my life wishing we had more older people in our industry and I continue to think this way, but we also need way more young people on company boards. The average age of an S&P 500 director is 63, up from 61 in 2007, nearly twice as many board members are over 75 than under 50. The world isn't changing that fast, but to get those wise enough to see change in context but young enough to realize the profound shifts in the modern world is essential. Many companies seem lost these days, they look fearful and naive or complacent and ignorant. Some young people to endlessly challenge old thinking would be a huge help. ( and yes, diversity of all types is needed, gender, race, background, expertise, way of thinking but that's another post )
