When steam engines were invented, despite directly producing incredible amounts of rotary force, for about the first 20 years they were used primarily to pump water uphill to drive water wheels. This is the mistake made with most digital transformation. We make the least imaginative change, the fastest, least risky and easiest to get through accounting alteration, by bolting on the new to what we have. Next time you see a process with new technology ponder this. Are we adding new technology like oil, or rebuilding around the power of the new. It's 99% the former. This is all in my book.
