When we predict the future, we tend only to be able to imagine one variable changing. It's why self driving cars of the future look oddly like cars do today. Cars today are designed around the cumulation of all frequent use cases, they are inherently COMPROMISED to not be terrible at anything people may want to do semi frequently. If cars are self driving, why would we park them? Why not use them when we are at work. So it's likely we don't own them, but we use them on a "pay as you go" basis. We will subscribe to them. If we don't own a car, we can switch from vehicle to vehicle based on what we need. So the design of cars will be OPTIMIZED for specific use cases. Most journeys may be slow urban pods fitting one people, others may be large minibuses for weekend trips.   Imagination is more important to future scenarios, than interpolating trend lines. …see more
