Healthcare. It should be more like Vegas--Always Open--But It Is Not. Is healthcare 'always open?' You might think it is, but it is not. In fact, it operates much more like a banker's hours than you'd think...or want! Did you know that in the hospital, many services end at 5pm? Like the team that insert special IVs for patients that cannot tolerate regular IVs? Or that social services closes? Or that discharge planners leave at 5pm too?  And if you were ready to be discharged from the hospital on Friday but arrangements for your rehab center (whether physical rehab or behavioral health rehab) hadn't been finalized yet, then most likely you have to spend another two--or three--days in the hospital until arrangements can be made... Talk about a waste of money and, talk about the increased opportunities to 'catch something' like a hospital-acquired infection. Hospitals and healthcare organizations still operate on a model of 9am-5pm, yet patient care is a continuous experience, requiring an entirely different operating model.
