I'm very happy to see "old news" make "new news!" Checklists have been long proven to improve reliability and safety. It also builds stronger team cohesion because, with when a standard tool is used, everyone is "on the same page." What's great about this news is raising awareness (yet again) that simple, non-expensive tools can do so much good--if used! And that's the rub... making sure such checklists and protocols are routinely used by everyone and not allowing "more senior" doctors or nurses to ignore them.
