Here we go again: Big words in the headline while the study was retrospective. A study from Northwestern University concludes that DeepCOVID-XR, an A.I. algorithm they’ve developed, detected COVID-19 on chest X-rays with performance similar to a consensus of experienced thoracic radiologists. However, when you look into the details, you see it was trained on data retrospectively. Whereas a physician diagnoses and treats a patient real-time, and doing that retrospectively would yield very different results and efficiency.
