What is "great employee morale"? Is it free food and snacks, morale events, swag, and so on? A lot of companies and leaders believe this to be the case. The more I lead organizations and learn, the more I am convinced that those are employment "perks", not morale. Great employee morale is a culture of transparency, respect and accountability, work that is motivating and exciting, and most important, being able to take and maintain control of your personal time and have true work-life balance. While most companies have the "perks" I mentioned above - ours included - I've learned that it's much more valuable to be able to leave work at a reasonable hour and get your personal time back, however you choose to spend it, and not have to worry that you'll be castigated for "not working enough" or that your job is overloading you with work.
