In my work as a consultant, I’ve uncovered a big secret. Generally, people are REALLY good at solving their own problems. During my coaching sessions, the majority of the time, I’m not talking at all. I’m listening! I’m listening as people think aloud and explore the nuances of their issues in ways they previously hadn’t. You don’t always need an expert to help you solve your problems. What you DO need is time—time to think, time to weigh all your options, and time to reflect. But that time won’t appear all on its own. You have to schedule it! You have to think.
