On my A.I. journey, I just had a workshop with a developer who works with deep and machine learning algorithms. I had a hundred questions and he helped me understand the details of not just these methods but also their implications for medicine and healthcare. What stroke me the most was what I learnt about reinforcement learning. AlphaGo that beat the world's best GO player (Lee Sedol, on the photo) also used that. It means you describe rules and then let the algorithm get outputs. Then you retrospectively tell the algorithm which output was fine and it creates its own rules for reaching those outputs. Do you know what it means? It means it's not bound the cognitive limitation of people. Physicians have been accusing me that I want to take away their "art of practicing medicine". I now go further than that. The era of medicine being an art will just begin when reinforcement learning tackles medical tasks. Can you imagine what new ways we will learn about finding cures, treatments and managing conditions? Ways we have never thought of. Just like how AlphaGo made moves nobody made before for thousands of years.
