I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with the phrase “strong independent woman”. On one hand, it was used as a compliment. It was often used in conjunction to people saying I would make a great businesswoman. On the other hand, it was also used as an insult. People would use it in conjunction with statements like “she has too high of expectations” or “she definitely doesn’t care about being likable”. I love Meryl Streep’s response to why she plays “strong-minded women”. “No one has ever asked an actor [why they’re] playing a strong-minded man. We assume men are strong-minded, or have opinions. But a strong-minded woman is a different animal." What do you think about the term? #leadership #femaleleaders
