“I really hope that things won’t just go back to normal when this is all over." The inspiring Ken Banks - tech innovator, social entrepreneur and author - was kind enough to share details of his life in lockdown from his daily routine, productivity tips and his top 5 books to read for my latest Beyond Work interview. https://lnkd.in/eSjqwnp #innovation #lockdown #tech …see more
Love this answer from J.K. Rowling: Q. What do you love most about the writing life? A: I can’t answer this without sounding melodramatic. The truth is that I can’t really separate a ‘writing life’ from ‘life.’ It’s more of a need than a love. I suppose I must spend most of my conscious life in fictional worlds, which some people may find sad, as though there must be something lacking in my external life. There really isn’t! I’m a happy person, by and large, with a family I adore and quite a few activities I enjoy. It’s just that I have other worlds in my head that I often slip in and out of and I don’t really know how it would feel to live any other way. …see more

“I really hope, more than anything, that when we go back to ‘normal life’, we will keep the environment and our planet at the forefront of our minds." Courtney Adamo As the world went into lockdown, I wanted a way of documenting this unusual time via short interviews with founders and innovators including a peak into their work life and productivity tips. The series is called Beyond Work and I am honoured that serial entrepreneur Courtney is included as my eighth interviewee, describing life in lockdown in Byron Bay. My hope with these interviews is that, in time, people will be able to look back and find a fascinating insight into how the virus impacted the world and changed how we work forever. In the short term, I hope readers will find it useful and inspiring — a welcome relief in difficult times. “Why was selling shoes so different? Because, I realized, it wasn’t selling. I believed in running. I believed that if people got out and ran a few miles every day, the world would be a better place, and I believed these shoes were better to run in. People, sensing my belief, wanted some of that belief for themselves. Belief, I decided. Belief is irresistible.” https://lnkd.in/gjn56GA #founder #entrepreneurship …see more

“Steve really had a way to force the entire ecosystem around our products to move in a direction that we wanted. So while it may seem like we were perfectly placed for these things to come online, in reality most likely we were behind the scenes kind of pulling the strings.” Great interview with Bethany Bongiorno and Imran Chaudhri https://lnkd.in/gEhXz5Y #founder #tech #stevejobs …see more

We were encouraged to believe that we could do anything we wanted to therefore I didn’t have these obstacles in my mind that made me think I couldn’t or shouldn’t pursue things. In a world where humans make sense of their own existence through storytelling, everyone is looking for their success story. The happy ending. But the ending is not success. Success is a moving goal. One of the observations about the COVID-19 pandemic is that it has accelerated trends. This is a great read from Alistair Croll in CB Insights on why that is and why longing for “back to normal” (in every sense of the word, not just business) is the absolute wrong way to think about moving forward. #COVID19 #coronavirus #cbinsights #strategy #technologyadoption #nobacktonormal #coronavirus #retail #delivery #thefutureisnow …see more

I've thought that narrative-driven shopping will be the next big thing for online retail for a while now. After all, not only has QVC and HSN proven the model on TV for decades, but a lot of their revenue now comes from live streams. And though Amazon has had a live stream for events like Prime Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, etc. for a few years now, this deck allows some insight as to the results brands can expect. Even if half-true, it is impressive. Of course, the price of admission means only brands of a certain budget will be able to take advantage of it. And there is still the concern about Amazon creating and favoring a private-label version of a product sold on its platform. #cybermonday #blackfriday #amazon #amazonlive #qvc #hsn #homeshoppingnetwork #narrativeretail #shoppingonline …see more
Make no mistake, if or when Instagram rolls this out beyond Brazil, it will find success. Will it topple TikTok ? Not likely. But that's not really the objective, is it? It's to expand engagement within the Instagram app to fight attrition to TikTok. #socialmedia #tiktok #instagram …see more
