Great TRT World video primer on China's rapidly expanding presence on the African continent. Thanks for sharing this, and your analysis of media coverage of this phenomenon, Eric Olander 欧瑞克 : "Is China good or bad for Africa? Who benefits? Exploitation or just good business? Arrrrrgh! Why does the international media so often feel the need to frame such a complicated, multifaceted geopolitical relationship in such simplistic, binary terms? It's interesting because this is phenomenon that one doesn't see anywhere near as much in the African and Chinese press. For outsiders looking in though, it's totally different and a trend that is largely unique to China. After all, Germany is one of Africa's largest investors but one never sees these kinds of polemic headlines, same with the US, France and Brazil among others. I think journalists really struggle to understand China's role in Africa because, in part, the Chinese challenge so many of the longstanding stereotypes of foreign powers in Africa: that the Western political and economic models are the ONLY paths to pursue or that development can ONLY happen through engagement with Western-led NGOs." #Africa #China #business #trade #policy …see more

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. A Tale of Two CEOs... Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is donating $1 billion—28% of his net worth—to COVID-19 relief. Dorsey will also fund universal basic income and women’s health and education, issues he believes address the world’s long-term existential problems. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has pledged $100 million of his $122 billion fortune (0.08%?) to COVID-19, and believes the solution to the world’s problems is to fly to the moon. …see more

Do a brain reboot and use breathing to restore your focus. Try taking a deep inhalation breath, pushing out your navel, and then powerfully expelling the air by slightly bringing in your stomach. Repeat this breath five to seven times and observe how the tension and mental chatter in your mind dissipates.Another breath that also short circuits the mental chatter is to place your tongue on the roof of your mouth and blow out as if you were blowing out candles on a birthday cake. As you blow out, count to seven. You can now regain your focus. To get my full list of 99 Essential tips on productivity click here now: https://lnkd.in/epuxvYe https://lnkd.in/eadpKB7 …see more

one can reasonably assume outcomes from this new fund will be quite different from Softbank’s Vision fund.
financial services activities are simple: one buys, sells or leverages risk. given that tomorrow’s post covid-19 risk will take on a drastically different shape, altering economic activity, it goes without saying that all finserv & fintech activities will be impacted - from lending, to paying, to insuring, to issuing, to structuring
integrity of supply chains means integrity of data collaboration and coordination AND integrity of business model governance. this is the next biz innovation wave.
Libra backed by a basket of currencies was never going to fly with US authorities as it would have threatened the $. Libra backed by the $ is eminently more palatable to US authorities, less threatening to today’s $ global status - however teetering. i suspect EU countries were against Libra, in its original version, for a different set of reasons. the EU is unifying and harmonizing its financial services industry (payments, data, asset mgmt). a supranational org like Libra would have challenged EU’s initiatives & goals. as such, my assumption is EU countries will remain fiercely to somewhat against Libra, even as its management is iterating to find the most acceptable model to all. #Libra #payments #fintech #Facebook #US #EU #currencies …see more
