We talk a lot about using Slack or how to use Zoom better, or collaborative documents to be more efficient. There is a LOT of great chat now about "rethinking work" and new ways to brainstorm remotely or explore ideas collaboratively. I can help but think it's easier than that. 1) Companies need to use meetings the right way. Is it to make decisions, to get buy in, to sell or to create a feeling of togetherness. Choose the attendees, format, preparation and time for it based around that. 2) Do the things that matter most, say no to 80% of things. Don't prioritize easy, fast, cheap, prioritize the things that really matter. Honestly, most of what everyone does is just busy work because nobody had the guts to say "no" 3) Make things simple. For those not launching rockets, what we do is pretty simple. We don't need that much time, that many points of view. We've been tricked into thinking things are ever more complex and have changed a lot, they haven't. Collaboration is a word used to justify why we've 4 times more people in a meeting room and why things take 10 times longer. Collaborate brilliantly or just agree not to. Just do the simple things that matter well, in a simple way. …see more

This piece reminds me of an idea I'd love to see happen. I'd love the likes of Facebook, Google, Linkedin, Uber, Twitter, Airbnb etc to offer some of their best staff to help Governments and Charities around the world to solve real problems. Either as 15% time projects or full time sprints. The staff would learn a lot, the public would gain enormously and the companies would finally get some good Press and repay some of the damage they've caused. https://lnkd.in/dY_vKUf …see more
We should really call digital transformation “customer centricity”. It’s what it’s all about and it would remove all the guff, hyperbole and snake oil

I was never a salesman. So when I started my first company I struggled. I heard more "no's" than I ever had in my life. But I learned and I'm thankful for that period of my life, because no matter what I'm doing professionally I will always have to "sell" myself. I interviewed Nicholas Kirchner on the Strange on Purpose podcast. His agency was just acquired and he's now the President of Margle Media. His first job was a sales job. He made 50 - 60 calls a day selling fiber optic cables. So when he branched off on his own he had the grit needed to sell. His advice: Pick up a phone and make a call. You'll get your teeth kicked in but you will learn. What was your first job and what did it teach you? #justQ 🖤 …see more
Lululemon announced to buy Mirror for $500M cash. Wow! That's quite of an exit! This is probably one of the best outcomes for a hardware tech company especially considering that the company just started 4 years ago and the product got launched just about 2 years ago. #impressive Mirror expects $100M revenue by the end of 2020; that's from the combination of selling Mirrors and $39/month fitness contents. This acquisition also makes it one of the most successful female founder exists in the tech world. Huge congratulations to Brynn Jinnett Putnam , Hayley Bay Barna & everyone else involved. A few learnings from this stellar performance of Mirror and Bryann: 1) High quality products with clear value propositions win. 2) Having a software strategy and subscription model is critical for hardware companies which allows them to scale their companies in different ways and generate substantial returns. 3) Founders with strong affinity for their category, background in their industry, and vision for consumers' real needs can create magical products that scale fast. #bestproducts #femaleleadership #femalefounders #femaleleaders #productmarketfit #subscriptionmodel #hardware #exitstrategy #mirror #healthandfitness #wellness #mergersandacquisitions First Round Capital #fitness …see more

There's been a lot of data flying back and forth. Every University has a "model". Every health official. Everybody on Twitter who in their spare time became a pandemic expert. Every government official is using different models. PhDs are coming up with one model in the morning and changing their mind by afternoon. Let's look at some of the models out there. The White House has been making policy decisions based on a model coming out of University of Washington. You can find details at covid19.healthdata.org . This model is being used to predict potential hospitalizations state by state. This model was considered the standard. What did they predict and were they right? . #coronavirus …see more
If you have a digital department the clear message in 2017 is the rest of the company isn't digitally savvy. That's not a good signal. Same with mobile and social. When something is new it's someone's job to lead change, then a department's, then everyone's.

My first year out of college was not what I was promised. While I found myself dealing with issues that I was warned about, there were some unique challenges that I shared with my peers entering the full-time workforce in 2018/2019. Some of them include a redefining of financial literacy (including how almost all of my friends have student debt), entering the workforce in the #MeToo era, and more. I spent many years around 2005-2012 thinking what the internet would mean for us all. It always seemed it would lead to more connections, more understanding, more scrutiny, more compassion and empathy, and greater knowledge. Yet here we are in 2020 divided by algorithms, whipped into a frenzy by politicians with an energy and vigor that suits the media models we picked to monetize and weaponize our outrage. We laugh at conspiracy theorists when it’s the symptom of distrust and curious brains. We laugh at the “wrong political side” because we think they’ve been conned. This is a serious decade to sort out trust. Trust in media. Trust in government. Trust in expertise. Trust in knowledge. Trust in institutions, in educations , and then we can trust each other and the good intentions that almost all people have. …see more
