This will be Nicole Black's first Christmas season without her daughter, Crystle. As she cares for her adorable grandbaby Jacob, Black must also struggle with memories from the early morning hours of July 4, 2018, when Crystle collapsed 6 days after giving birth. Black and her family members called 911, but they say EMTs with Hillsborough County, Florida questioned whether they could afford the $600 ambulance fee. Nicole Black drove Crystle to the emergency room herself, where she died five days later. #Reproductivejustice activists across America say stories like these happen every day, in rural areas and communities of color where medical facilities and transportation systems are limited or non-existent. No woman, regardless of her economic status or racial/ethnic background, should have to worry whether or not she might be refused medical care based on her zip-code. I took a break from larger speaking events since my little brother's passing last October. The thought of stepping on stage again felt weird to me. Weeks before my speaking engagement, I started to break down. Felt anxious. Snappy. The event was only about 300 people but I still struggled with preparation. I've tested over 150 digital health technologies, wearables, portable diagnostic devices and direct-to-consumer services. It doesn't happen so often that I feel the technological sublime and get carried away by a product. But using a portable ultrasound with my smartphone is pretty mind-blowing. I tested Clarius Mobile Health two years ago with an emergency medicine physician (and shared it in an article and video). Now I got a chance to test the new version which is even lighter, thinner and the app is even easier to use. Such a technology marks the era of how patients are becoming the point-of-care. What a historic moment. The SpaceX capsule & NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration crew completed a historic mission and achieved a successful splashdown after 45 years! This was a culmination of 10 years of collaboration between #ElonMusk 's #SpaceX and #NASA . Growing up it was my dream to live in NYC, overlook the city and write for a living. I never wanted to be an entrepreneur. I didn't even know what that word meant. I sold my services in video games when I was younger. I hustled for gigs as a musician. But "business" never really interested me. I'm 26. Black. And decided not to complete college. On paper no one would ever bet on me to succeed. Don't let anyone convince you that there is an ideal entrepreneur, or CEO, or professional (or fill in the blank with whatever you aspire to be). Walmart opens clinics in the US, which they ambitiously call "healthcare supercenters". Their aim is to provide cheap healthcare services in primary care, urgent care, diagnostics, x-rays, behavioral health and dental care.
