A lot of agencies try to promote themselves by only showing the work they've done on massive ( and often not very innovative ) companies. Just be aware that puts off quite a few potential clients who think they won't take us very seriously. It's far more interesting to see the great work you can do with clients with less resource and who've you've help make, not sustained.
One of the big opportunities and problems right now is that people would rather do things that are totally irrelevant and easy, not incredibly important but really hard. A lot of companies have existential threats to their business which will require really hard work, investment and risk. For some reason people focus on the degree to which these changes are hard, rather than the degree to which they are utterly essential. We'd rather limp slowly to obsolescence than fight gloriously for survival. It's not something I understand, the P&L's explain it a little. We need more creativity in accounting. Right now the cost of doing nothing is typically marked as zero, rather than the huge expense of losing everything. And investments are required to show a direct ROI, rather than being the mere cost of staying alive. …see more

I never wanted to be known as a black entrepreneur. Race was always something that I wanted to be left out of my story. I didn't want to be the best "black" (fill in the blank)... I just wanted to be the best. I've come to see a major flaw in my thinking. Growing up we are told in our families and communities that blackness is power. But the world tells us that blackness is synonymous with being unintelligent, poor, angry, [fill in the blank]. And whether I wanted to believe that or not, there is a part of me that has accepted that as a reality as well. Hence, not wanting to be called a black entrepreneur. I've been thinking a lot about everyone that is going to come after me, the lack of role models I have had in my life, and how important representation really is across the board. So... to my fellow minority, and underrepresented, business owners: own it. Someone out there is counting on you to show up. A big issue that I see is this: way too much focus on trying to get new followers. Not enough focus on retaining the following that you have cultivated/are cultivating. Building a following is great. The vast majority of apps are solutions to the founder's problems, who are typically young, tech centric guys who want to find what was once done by their mums. It will be fascinating to see the apps that other people slowly make and to solve the more significant problems that other people face.
