"Focus on having high quality of life into old age. You have to plant those seeds now. Then today’s 50 is yesterday’s 25."
(I swore to myself): Don't argue about money. The stress and death are not worth it. But what I learned from my dad, and what I learned from his death, is what I am thankful for today. I owe any success I've ever had to him, because of these things I've learned. …see more
Right after I sent this, heard from a family member of yet another company informing its employees of an imminent round of outright redundancies, furloughs, pay cuts, etc... It's another confirmation that this highly-unsettling shock will hit earnings in the overwhelming majority of households. #economy #coronavirus #covid19 …see more
Reinvention is hard. You can’t just read a book about how to be a success and then suddenly be a success. The first key is to “cleanse”. This is not like a juice cleanse. It’s like a life cleanse. Then you are ready for what it takes to reinvent your life. But first… the three habits below. …see more
Example of what NOT to do. Send a letter: "I'm trying to figure out how not to waste time. Will you meet me for coffee to discuss?"

Months of planning and so many recordings later. . . Finally submitted the Zero to Infinity podcast to iTunes. Can't wait to share the show when it's live with you!
My mission this week is to try to turn every Zoom call into a phone call, and to try to do as many calls as possible while walking outside. (provided this is legal/safe/ masks etc - I'm in a very rural area)
Wrote my first piece for "The Next Web" today. About how: - Making profit these days is deemed to be a lack of ambition. - Disruption is really about surviving terrible economics until someone economic reality bends. Hope you like it. …see more
Business Insider Intelligence, Gartner, Forrester and eMarketer are largely the purveyors of junk. You can't predict the value of AI in 2025, largely because there is no remotely clear definition of it. Same with VR, same with iOT, same with Self Driving cars. In addition, 2025 is too far out for anyone to know. Will Snap Spectacles be selling 10m pairs or 10 pairs in March 2017. We don't know oil prices next year, let alone the sales of Magic Leap, a product that doesn't yet exist. Nobody has any idea. Can we get a bit better at treating quant predictions as utter guesswork. …see more
For #MondayMotivation , just try to keep up with Betsy Wade if you dare. She is a journalism legend and has been such a dear friend to me. At 89, her energy and sheer force of will are a phenomenal inspiration. But Betsy’s most precious gift to the women in her life is that of mindful, loving mentorship. As we gave each other big JAWdess hugs at the airport in Portland, Betsy kissed my cheek and said, “You are who I would have wanted to be if I had had the choice.” I’m typing this post through stunned tears of pride that a woman like Betsy would want to be a woman like me. And I am so profoundly grateful that the Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS) came into my life. #JAWS #JAWSCamp18 #womeninjournalism #mentoring #rolemodels …see more
What a wonderful reunion I had with one of the very first #socialjustice advocates I've ever known--who just happened to be a fellow student at Northwestern University back in 1979. neil boyer was one of the leaders of the Black Student Union at NU, and he deftly modeled activism for a purpose during the years I observed him in action. But even I couldn't have predicted the scope of his vision! Neil has had an incredible career in #globaldevelopment and #economics , with organizations like UNDP , Africare and the Peace Corps . He's lived in the #CentralAfricanRepublic , #Namibia , #Lesotho , #Swaziland , The #Gambia and #SouthAfrica . And he's still just as righteous and conscious as ever, organizing environmental strategy for the Peace Corps. Re-connecting with Neil reminded me of why I was so eager to support health and development reporting on the African continent. There's such a fertile, rewarding opportunity for African Americans to delve into #globaldevelopment , and I hope more young people will follow suit! #environmentaleducation #environment #leadership #developmenteconomics …see more

I'm a US citizen, an immigrant, and unapologetically American. And as such, I believe America to be a nation founded on the principles of freedom from oppression, compassion and generosity. The America I know did not turn my family and I away when we fled from tyranny. The America I know should not do so now, or ever, for those that seek its shelter, peace, and love.
If you can’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of others. And in order to take care of yourself, you must first outline your values -- the attributes of the person you want to become. It’s only when we turn our values into time can we understand whether we’re living by them. In order to live with personal integrity and on our own terms, we must schedule our time in alignment with our values. What are some of your values? Feeling stuck in your #career ? Here’s how to make #progress : Admit you’re in a rut. Many don’t realize they’re in a rut, busying themselves being busy, using their fear as a way to avoid reality. Change your mindset. Staying in a negative headspace won’t help you move forward. Instead, shift to one of positivity and possibility to consider what could be. Help others and practice gratitude. When you help others, you feel better, which paves the way for more good. And when you practice gratitude, you create a virtuous cycle of positivity to get you back on track. Figure out what you want. Getting unstuck requires clarity and begins with your ability to answer a simple question: “What do I want?” Ask for help—and be open to receiving it. A trusted friend can offer words of encouragement in a supportive and non-judgmental voice. Do your best to listen to the advice given, even if it includes an unfamiliar path. Get out of your comfort zone. Stagnation thrives in comfort zones; it’s where career ruts are born. Getting unstuck is about pushing yourself to take risks and reaping the rewards. Don’t forget the importance of self-care. Ignoring your needs is counterproductive to your progress. Treat yourself the supportive way you would a treasured friend. …see more
