I first met Charlotte City Councilwoman Carlenia Ivory a few weeks ago, at a party thrown for a group of phenomenal women by another phenomenal woman, Artie Collins . Artie recently retired from her job as VP for Community Development at PNC Bank, but she's still all about connecting people who need to meet each other. Being relatively new to #Charlotte, I relished the chance to interact with so many accomplished, dynamic professional women. But something stood out about Carlenia Ivory. She's lived in Charlotte for 47 years, and had a long and distinguished record as an educator and advocate before being appointed to the City Council earlier this year. Her passion for Charlotte and its people, her seemingly tireless effort to create real change were palpable, and attested to by everyone in the room. That impression deepened today, after hearing Ms. Ivory's remarks at "womengive | 17". My BFF Faith T. and I were pleased to connect with her again at the Foundation For The Carolinas , and I'm hoping to follow in her very committed footsteps. How many times have you heard that humans are incapable of multitasking? Now, what if I told you that wasn’t exactly true? If you’ve ever taken notes during a meeting or listened to a podcast while preparing dinner, congratulations, you’ve multitasked. Of course we can do more than one task at a time! We do it all the time! In the clip below, I talk about “multichannel multitasking.” Is this a technique you use? If so, how? #Indistractable #Multitasking #Values #Productivity …see more

Ego-depletion is a theory that willpower is connected to a limited reserve of mental energy, and once you run out of that energy, you're more likely to lose self-control. But new studies suggest that we've been thinking about willpower all wrong and that the theory of ego-depletion isn't true. Much like motivation, viewing willpower through the old and not-quite accurate lens can cause us to get working toward more willpower and less distraction wrong. Click below to read more about how to change your view on willpower! After reading, be sure to tag a friend / colleague who would find this interesting too. #Indistractable #Willpower #SelfControl #HumanBehavior #EgoDepletion …see more

In my book, Indistractable, I discuss how we can use tech to "hack back" external triggers caused by tech. Here's a great example I use every day: RoboKiller! This app nearly eliminated the annoying telemarketer calls I used to receive. It's also hilarious! When a telemarketer calls your phone, the system plays a recorded message to waste as much of their time as possible so they take you off their list. It also records the call for your enjoyment. It's genius! Check out the recording of this "wise guy!" What do you think of using tech to outsmart people trying to hack your attention? How do you "hack back?" #Tech #HackBack #Telemarketing #Funny #Indistracable #RoboKiller …see more

How many of us will have the #courage and acumen to cannibalise 100% of our revenue-generating products and focus on emerging opportunities in the hope of taking our company to new heights? Intel Corporation had a #crisis when the markets started moving towards cheaper and better memory chips. Andrew Grove, a legend to the engineers in the 80s, made massive successful #pivots - Taking Intel out of their dominant market, memory chips - Entering the new emerging market for microprocessors - Creating defensible competitive advantage that has lasted to this day While this year has been difficult for the society at large and for many of us in the start-up ecosystem, it has been especially difficult for founders. Others before us have faced #crisis , albeit in different ways. Whether it was the financial crisis or the dot-com crash or an internal crisis specific to a company, there are so many examples of transformational companies and inspirational leaders that transcended a crisis. We can certainly learn from their journeys. These episodes of the #KalaariPodcast come from our continued commitment to empower and encourage entrepreneurs. podcasts@kalaari.com https://lnkd.in/eAA6Wry …see more

Check out this incredibly believable photoshopped image of me on Senior night in high school - long before the Photoshop era when we had to rely on PAINT to edit photos. This was also the first time I was told I couldn't swim because of illness... so my girls photoshopped me in to make me feel included. From disease to seizures, I've been told time and time again that I can't swim, dance, or run. So when I attended a facility today to soak up the scent of chlorine while my better half completed physical therapy, I inquired about the pool... and I was told that I would be provided my own ATTENDANT to swim!!! Furthermore, I would be provided SUPPORT by said attendant should I require guidance for my vision impairment. This fitness facility is building an inclusive space. What are YOU doing to create a safe space for ALL guests? I'm genuinely curious as YOU play a part in building an inclusive and accessible world for all! I haven't been able to enjoy the water in DECADES (without paying an arm and a leg for support)... For the first time in a very, very long time, I actually feel like I am welcome. Like I belong. And I am so incredibly thankful. Be inclusive by setting the stage for ALL to feel welcome ♥ #Inclusion #DifferentlyAbled #Disability …see more

If you are from the high-risk community nervous about job security while requiring a sense of health wellbeing, do this👇 Address the issue with your hiring manager via email, along the lines of... "I am so thankful to be a part of your team, but as you may or may not know, I have [[X condition]], and as a member of the high risk community, I don't feel safe in our current work environment..." ALSO, follow your message up by suggesting solutions, such as: "ABC Company is hosting daily checkpoints to address sanitization and security measures, perhaps we can implement them as well. I would be happy to support this mission on behalf of my high-risk colleagues..." ALSO, make sure to document EVERYTHING should you need support from our ADA programs. I understand how stressful this pandemic can be as a high-risk care giver of two and professional working 60+ hrs per week, It is especially horrifying if you've seen loved ones hospitalized or have lost loved ones to the fight against COVID-19. Take deep breaths. Stay positive with an attitude of gratitude and keep things professional. We will get through this. ✊ Stay healthy and take care, Chantel Soumis 🌟 #differentlyabled #humanresources #disability …see more

Average leaders aren’t necessarily bad people; they simply haven’t mastered the one thing that can help them maximize their #leadership : their #energy . In his seminal book of the same name, Bruce D Schneider, M.C.C. introduces the notion of Energy Leadership, the “ability to shift, or lead, energy to make it work for you, those around you, and your organization.” He says there are two types of energy, which take their names from the hormones they produce in the body: anabolic, which is constructive, and catabolic, which is destructive. Schneider believes that your level of consciousness, and the energy it produces, will attract or repel desired or undesired people, events, and outcomes. Leaders at levels one and two have fragile egos and believe it’s all about them; those in the higher levels have healthy egos and are increasingly open to the ideas of others. The higher your level of consciousness, the more energy you have, and the more productive, peaceful, powerful, and healthy you are. The good news, says Schneider, is that your energy level is not fixed, but instead, operates on a fluid spectrum. Even if today, you find yourself hovering at a combative level two, pausing to reflect and acknowledge your behaviors can help you move into a more productive energy. …see more

We applaud HIMSS for creating another definition of digital health. However, it is too technology-focused and ignores the cultural transformation digital health technologies cause in healthcare. I find our definition more accurate: “the cultural transformation of how disruptive technologies that provide digital and objective data accessible to both caregivers and patients leads to an equal level doctor-patient relationship with shared decision-making and the democratization of care” We elaborated on our description in this paper: https://lnkd.in/e7B3aNV #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #himss #definition #culturaltransformation …see more

At-home laboratory testing is one of the technologies in #digitalhealth that will make patients the point-of-care. Imaware offered me to test one of their at-home tests for celiac disease which I did. One finger prick, blood collection took only a few minutes and now I'm sending back the sample to their lab. I can't wait to share the results and my experience with the whole process with you. https://imaware.health / #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #testing #health #healthy #fromchancetochoice …see more
