I attended a family wedding recently wearing jewellery borrowed from family on the spot. Even though my family is in this industry, I haven't collected much gold or diamond jewellery. I understand Indian women do - as much for financial security as for fashion/beauty. I understand the case for gold but do diamonds deserve the same status? Do you buy diamonds? If so, why? When attempting to understand the causes of distraction, it’s incredibly easy to assign blame to technology. A quick Google search will turn up countless headlines: “Technology is driving us to distraction” “Smartphones make people distracted and unproductive” “Why we're living in a dark age of technological distraction” The truth is that digital distraction is a symptom, not the sickness. When we put all the blame on tech, the root causes stay hidden. Unless we deal with the root causes of our distraction, we'll continue to find ways to distract ourselves. The KEYS to interpersonal communication: Empathy, Patience & Grace. Here's my story 👇 First, I'm so thankful for my friends, colleagues, clients and family that understand my weirdness 😜 Seeing my bubbly exterior, you probably don't know that I continue to work through social anxiety which comes with a few things like: 👉 Discomfort in big groups. 👉 Terrible small talk skills. 👉 Fear of phone calls. 👉 Usually misunderstood. This is a big reason why I pursued a passion in mastering communications and marketing! I'm still a work in progress, but proud of how far I've come by putting the need-to-be-liked aside and by having a super strong support system of fellow empaths! ❤ So the next time someone says or does something off-putting, lean in with warmth and grace! Can you relate? Thank you 😊 Chantel Soumis #communications …see more
Hey all you moms and dads, trying to work from home or run your business while micromanaging your little ones to pay attention in their virtual class... You're doing great. Things are weird... But you are rising above to the occasion. Waking up at 4am to squeeze in a few emails or staying up late to get a few projects done... I see you putting in that extra effort. You're crushing it. It's hard to be productive with a kiddo chiming in every 10 minutes, asking for a chocolate milk or help accessing a new school application, but you are practicing the patience and understanding of a saint. It's okay to be the "bad guy" with rules, time-outs and tears... There isn't an "ideal way" to do this. But your efforts aren't wasted. You're raising our next generation of ambitious professionals. That's a pretty big deal and an even bigger job while managing everything else you already have on your plate! Keep up the great work 💪 🍾🥂 #workingparents #entrepreneurship …see more
What I’ve found most helpful in transforming my career was honestly answering two deceptively simple questions: 1. What do I want? Though straightforward, that question isn’t easy for most to answer. Some wrestle with insecurities and fears about acknowledging their true desires; others have never pushed the pause button on their busy lives long enough to give themselves space to do so. The key to answering this query is finding clarity through thoughtful introspection on what matters most to you. But remember, clarity demands specificity: there is no room for a wishy-washy answer. The more focused you can be about what matters most to you, the better. 2. Does this (thing, person, job, etc.) support me or prevent me from achieving what I want? How and with whom you spend your time, and your productivity while doing so, correlates to your ability to achieve your desires. Become more discerning with your time by regularly asking yourself if what you’re about to do supports your goals. If it doesn’t, learn to say no. And this doesn’t just apply to things; consider with whom you’re spending your time. If the people in your life are holding you back, consider establishing boundaries—or finding a new inner circle of those who support your goals. #leadership #career …see more

Have you ever played that game, “Two Truths and a Lie?”💁♀️ For those unfamiliar, you offer three “facts” about yourself and have other players guess which two are accurate and which one is a fib. For instance, if we were playing right now (and hey, why not?), mine might be: 1️⃣ Guy Fieri told me I smelled great 2️⃣ My face once appeared on Go-Gurt® 3️⃣ Like most creatives, I’m an introvert The whole point is to *intentionally* throw someone off, so they’re never quite sure who you are and what you’re about. You leave them scratching their heads, not sure what to believe.🤷♀️ While inciting confusion is a potentially game-winning strategy, it’s a lousy way to make professional progress. Because when you confuse, you lose—a potential employer’s interest, your boss’s attention, or a prospective client who doesn’t understand how you can help them.🤦♀️ (Ouch!) Yesterday something really unexpected happened. It was my birthday and I had meetings back-to-back all day. One of those meetings was with the good folks at Strala . David Swensen saw the notification that it was my birthday, and alerted the rest of the team. Mikel Chertudi contacted my wife and asked what I liked. Erika Munson ran and picked up balloons and a dozen of my favorite doughnuts. (I'm sure there are thoughtful others that contributed so my apologies for not directly calling you out). I arrived for my meeting just to have a mini birthday party thrown for me! What a thoughtful gesture that would be somewhat rare for an employee, much less common for a non-employee. Thank you Strala.com team! Your actions speak loudly about your care and thoughtfulness. …see more

I just came across a company called Maple that developed a virtual care program that tries to reduce the burden on the staff in emergency departments. They are piloting it with Health PEI , a governmental organization. Some patients who meet the program’s specific inclusion and exclusion criteria can use a virtual care visit right on the spot, instead of waiting for in-person treatment. The nursing staff under medical directives can perform a few tests, then add data about the patient on the online platform. This request goes out to a network of physicians using an Uber-like matching approach and physicians determine if they’d like to “pick up the visit” and treat the patient. They reported an incredible drop in waiting times - down from 8 hours in some cases to under 5 minutes because of their matching algorithm and triage approach. I know there are many emergency physicians here. I was happy to receive a speaker invitation from the Commonwealth Fund as these are the opportunities the whole The Medical Futurist team works hard for. These are the events where I can try to influence major decision makers including health ministers and leaders of large organization to 1) use patient design in their processes, 2) understand how digital health technologies make patients the point-of-care and 3) how everyone involved with this should start with themselves. This way, only by trying to live a healthier life with a few simple technologies, they also learn about the relationship they have with technologies. We had an amazing Smart Healthcare Meetup where e-Patient Dave gave a talk about Superpatients and I asked him on stage how he sees the future of medicine and healthcare. When I asked him what we can do to empower physicians, not only patients, with digital health technologies, he said we should just tell our caregiver when we appreciate something they do. I went home and sent an e-mail to my primary care physician thanking her that she is so open to my sensors and data and that I can count on her. You might want to do it too. :) #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice …see more
