It's early but, once again, the unusual co-movements among the VIX and US equity indices is notable. It is a repeat of what we saw last week. More to follow via an FT op ed on the why and the so what. #markets #stocks #vix #bloomberg #volatility Financial Times …see more

Quick US Market Recap At the end of a consistently strong day for US stocks, the major indices are showing gains from 2.0% (for the Dow) to 2.8% (NASDAQ). Oil prices ended the day higher, as did yields on government bonds. All this in the midst of relief that this week's carnage in oil hasn't led to massive capitulation trades, at least as yet. #markets #stocks #equities #interestrates #stockmarket #yields #bonds #investing …see more

Last night, Hanks accepted the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille award, which is given for "outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment." In his acceptance speech, Hanks repeatedly got choked up as he thanked his family and fellow actors and directors. But it was towards the end of Hanks's 7-minute speech that the actor dropped the real golden nugget. Hanks shared a story of when he worked in his first professional job, as an intern. Hanks and his fellow interns showed up to rehearsals after doing a little too much partying the previous night. "[The director] screamed at us," said Hanks. "You know what your job is?" he asked. "You have got to show up on time, and you have to know the text, and you have to have a head full of ideas." Hanks says "that was the greatest lesson a young actor could possibly ever get." In today's column, we break down why the wisdom in that single line will do wonders for YOUR career, regardless of the industry you work in. #GoldenGlobes #TomHanks #EmotionalIntelligence #leadership #management #BestAdvice #careers #EQApplied #MakeEmotionsWorkForYouNotAgainstYou …see more

The interest in virtual reality seems proportional to the inverse of how great your real reality is. Personally I'm lucky , I've got better things to do.
During this challenging time a bunch of my McKinsey colleagues in China are volunteering their time and energy toward supporting hospitals needing protective suits, masks, and other important supplies in the frontline battle against COVID-19. My colleagues shared a few stories on WeChat today about the work they’re doing (Chinese only). One story is about Charleen Luo from our Shanghai office, pictured here with her 5 year old daughter. Since school is closed she asked her daughter to write a story in English about the work she’s doing, which she allowed me to share with you here. I have to say when I read this I was tremendously impressed! https://lnkd.in/fGjR6Hd #china #GoWuhan …see more
Realistically almost all issues are deeply complex, the notion of behavior that is right or wrong, the idea one could understanding an issue entirely, are all silly. Somehow life feels very complex and our need to be on a "side" or "maintain a viewpoint" consistently, is at odds with this. Seeing both sides of something seems to merely attract scorn from everyone. In charged times it becomes dangerous to your reputation to even listen to another side, let alone seek to understand the viewpoint . …see more
What's happening in China is always interesting. We've had the era of China copying the west, then China inventing their own system and models and us ignoring them, probably likely that we now start copying them. Building for a mobile first world is fascinating. …see more
Publishing is weird these days. I typically get 100 times more views of a post on here than the same material published to Forbes. Content seems more democratic than ever.
You get the feeling the entire US TV industry doesn't understand anything about TV/Video consumption any more. Treating the digital/mobile pipes as competition rather than another ( and better) route to market.
Meme culture is on point re: brands pandering to the pandemic... if you see examples send them my way?
Earlier this week, Sherwin-Williams held a master class on what not do to when a passionate employee displays creativity in highlighting a key aspect of your business. They fired Anthony Piloseno who had created a TikTok account based on paint mixing with over 1 million followers. Well, good news. The now ex-Sherwin-Williams employee has landed at a new paint company Florida Paints . Piloseno said he had many offers from many paint companies but that he and Don Strube , Co-Owner of Florida Paints connected over their shared passion for paint. So what can companies learn from this? 1/ Don't just judge the actions of employees based on policies and procedures. Take context into consideration. 2/ Review your policies and procedures regularly to see if they are stifling ideas and growth or are even needed at all. 3/ Recognize that just because something happens that wasn't in the plan, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be explored. #sherwinwilliams #floridapaints #tiktok #socialmedia #paint #companyculture …see more
