The authors of this Digital Medicine paper beautifully summarized how a digital health technology (the example is a heart rate tracker) can be validated and regulated in an increasingly complex clinical setting from impacting lifestyle to medical decisions. "As digital health companies have become more prolific and the number and diversity of digital health products has multiplied, the need for requirement-driven product realization and systematic validation has become increasingly important." https://lnkd.in/giQBzCB #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice …see more
As even organizations like the WHO have been mixing up health IT and digital health, I published an editorial in the Journal of Clinical and Translational Research and introduced the Gary rule to clear up this misconception. If a technological issue comes up in a healthcare setting such as the anti-virus software becomes outdated and we have to call Gary, the IT guy, as he is alone capable of solving it what-ever methods he uses, it’s an IT issue. If Gary is not enough to solve the issue because more stakeholders of healthcare must get involved, (e.g. letting patients bring the data of their trackers into the practice and merging that with electronic medical records), it’s digital health. https://lnkd.in/g2UvetW …see more
I receive a lot of questions about which ECG device can help patients monitor their heart condition. Here are the three most popular and widely available hand-held ECG devices. Kardia (formerly known as Alivecor) has the most studies backing them. Viatom can measure more vital signs besides ECG. And WIWE has a good algorithm behind them. Any other good ECG devices? #technology #bigdata #health #healthcare #digitalhealth #ECG …see more
I really like how Simon Kos, Chief Medical Officer at Microsoft, talks about digital health. “We digitized, but we digitized all of the mistakes too. Then it dawned on me – digitization is important, but it’s not transformation.” Exactly, its's cultural because we, people in healthcare, are the bottleneck of innovation. #digitalhealth #healthcare #microsoft …see more

The just-released US initial jobless claims--870,000 versus last week's 860,000 and consensus expectation of 850,000--provide further evidence of the slowing pace of economic recovery. Continuing claims came in at 12.6 million, a fall of 167,000 and again somewhat worse than expected. #economy #jobs #employment #unemployment …see more
Jobless claims came in at 1.508 million, above consensus expectation and only slightly below the prior week. The continuing claims of 20.5 million are above consensus expectations of 19.85 million. Further to the earlier posts on airlines and Hertz ... and on the more general issue of the great disconnect between markets and fundamentals: The underlying cause of the disconnect (and the constant): The continued ultra-activism of central banks; The volatility amplifier: The inherent uncertainties of COVID-19 economics; Among the most vulnerable: Markets role in the efficient pricing and allocation of resources; and retail investors. #markets #investing #economy #centralbanks #equities #centralbanks #volatility #economics #stocks #bonds #investmentmanagement #fed #stockmarket #assetallocation #federalreserve #fixedincome #monetarypolicy …see more
What stood out for me in the Fed minutes include: - An inclination to opt for stronger forward policy guidance. - A need to monitor banks closely, encouraging them to safeguard balance sheets (not by cutting lending but rather payments to shareholders). - Very little on negative rates. #centralbanks #fed #fomc #markets #economy …see more

As a follow-up to the conversation just now on Squawk Box with Joe Kernen, here's a chart comparing the YTD performance of the S&P and oil (WTI). While both are dealing with collapsing economic growth, the S&P has a stronger bridging mechanism (the Fed) and de facto a lower "carry" cost as investors "Look through" to a better future. #markets #investing #investing #economy #stocks #equities #stockmarket #oil #WTI #bloomberg …see more
