The moment everything changed. I’ve never felt more comfortable and confident than when I was moderating the “A Living Wage Buys Health” panel during #AspenIdeasHealth . I felt like myself. What a head rush! Grateful to University of Washington researcher Crystal C. With the economic recovery faltering (just check out today's brutal jobless claims data) and federal aid stalled in Washington, state governments are stepping in to try to help small businesses survive the pandemic winter. In recent weeks, both blue and red states have rolled out new grant and loan programs to help their businesses hang on. The trouble is, there's a limit to what states can do. The pandemic has blown a hole in state budgets, and unlike the federal government, most states can't run a deficit. Governors say they need federal help. As Gov. Mike DeWine of Ohio told me: “We have done what we can do to pump money into small businesses so that people can continue to work... We’ve got to get that help from the federal government. That’s the only place we can get it.” For more on what states are doing, and why saving small businesses is so important to their budgets and economies, see my story in today's The New York Times : #economy #smallbusiness #jobs …see more

Leadership means a lot of things to a lot of people, but at its essence, it’s about helping others. And today, in honor of Veterans Day, I’d like to give a major shout-out to the many family members, friends, and other brave men and women who have served in the military. Thank you for your service, for selflessly giving of yourself and your time, and for demonstrating what it means to be a leader. And for those who haven’t had the privilege of serving in the Armed Forces, I challenge you to regularly ask yourself: How can I be of service to others? When we approach our lives and careers with this perspective, we’ll naturally find ways to provide value and assistance to others, and truly lead by example. #leadership …see more

Professionals are smart, but are shit content creators. I saying it in the nicest way. You spent the last third or more of your life: upskilling and developing your knowledge. When someone asks you a question with the problem they are facing. You respond with passion and with details. But when you go in front of camera... Your personality becomes plain as a white bread. Your delivery is stiff. Most times you go on tangents. But instead of filming it again and make it better, you tend to give up. The same with writing ✍️ You have a key message. But there’s no style or flow. And maybe you forget to edit and clean up. The thing about content creation. It’s a skill of communication. It’s something that you need to constantly craft and hone. At the start, you will stumble and fumble. But know that you will get better. I almost failed in English in high school. Look where I am now... I write and create every day. I have a startup that helps others be a trusted voice on LinkedIn. Persistence and skills opens: 🍗 opportunities 🍗 confidence If I can do it, you can too. Need help starting? LinkedIn Page vs Profile... which is better? Company or person... whom do you see more? On your feed do you see content from company pages or from a person/profile? Let's vote with an emoji: ❤️ profile 👍 company page I ask because I want to know if I should invest and double down on my profile page or expand to my company page. But creating content that doubles up on profile/company doesn't make sense. Company pages should have a big vision strategy. Multiple Profiles from C-Levels can be more segmented, more channels, more voices. I also have a theory... That people prefer people over companies. Or maybe companies aren't just relatable/human enough. Comment/Click ❤️ or 👍 #stringtheory on #linkedinmarketing …see more
