One of my favorite quotes of all time was uttered by legendary animator Walt Disney: "You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you." There's a lot to be learned from that sentence. As you go through life, there will be no shortage of persons telling you what you need to improve or what you can do better. You could label all these people as haters and simply ignore them. Or, you could do what Disney did: You could use that negative feedback to make you better. The internet of things is just the internet used properly. Like going from batteries to mains power sockets. It's not a thing, it's the lack of false barriers to a thing.

Just started Sam Altman's How to Start a Startup and learning a ton already. Looking forward to finishing up the series in the next couple of weeks. A few of my favorite insights so far: Power of love: "Very few startups die from competition. Most die because they themselves fail to make something users love." Advantages of being young/student entrepreneurs: (1) new ideas and (2) opportunity to meet co-founders. #lifelonglearning …see more

A lot of companies these days are essentially like buildings constructed in the wrong place, with the wrong foundations. We think that interior design will stop people from noticing. We'd rather have chats about new sofas and new wallpaper, than face the idea we've got existential problems that need deep rethinking. Department stores simply do not need to exist, banks need to accept it's customer experience, not vaults that matter. Car companies need to accept car dealerships are increasingly unhelpful. TV companies need to rethink the rules and opportunities of entertainment. People think of digital transformation as the refurbishment business. People think transformation is like "home decor" shows where you know a month after the camera crew leaves the hacks, the workarounds, the sprayed on silver, have worn off and reality hits you. It was exciting, it looked better, people seemed happy but the issues remain. Digital transformation needs to move from refurbishment to the construction industry. A way to build the construction you should have, in the place you should have, and to then plan the migration between the two. It's not cheap, it's not fast, it's not easy, but for some companies it's essential Often a startups only advantage, is that it starts from nothing …see more

We've long had "retweets are not endorsements" & I wish we could find a way to express the viewpoint... "Sharing this single article from a single publication does not mean I, in any way, 1) Agree with the Publications general stance on anything, let alone everything. 2) I support the Writers views on anything else or the writer as a person 3) It does not mean I agree with everything in the article 4) I'm just sharing because it's a useful addition to our understanding, it contains information worth knowing or perhaps presents a viewpoint worth seeing and using mental dexterity to try to understand. But instead, in these charged times, one seems to be jumped on for anything. …see more

This piece confirms what I've felt for a long time. Data and models and the people who make and interpret them provide such an insanely PRECISE output, that people think they must be CORRECT. When instead they are wildy inaccurate, they rely on awful assumptions and don't account for many variables. These people are somehow claiming to be able to predict the precise number of people who will get Covid in each county in the USA for the next year. Reminds me of climate change models that somehow claim to predict the weather in 50 years time in each city. But I do still love how the NYC presents data and how their website is so beautiful and interactive. https://lnkd.in/eeaEYr5 …see more

I've got zero idea when I watch TV today, what shows are broadcast, streamed, SVOD, VOD, stored locally and played or AVOD. What is vastly interesting and important to many industry people has no meaning to the audience. Time to embrace new behaviors and help me find what I want to watch.
