Facebook Remote Work Strategy vs. Twitter & Square Remote Work Strategy: Which one did you like better? Twitter & Square announced that all employees have option to work permanently from home. Facebook announced that 50% of its employees will work from home over the next 5-10 years. In my view, Facebook's approach is a lot more sound and serves both current employees & future hires while still drive for the best business outcomes. Here's why? 1) Facebook acknowledge the gaps and plans to solve many of the issues such as communication & creativity through building tools & technologies. 2) Facebook plans to offer remote work to more experienced employees vs. newly graduates who need more mentoring and structure. 3) It offers Remote Work option to majority of current and future employees, but acknowledges that some roles can't be remote. It's critical to be honest and open about these types of limitations. 4) Facebook's strategy came across as data driven & feedback-driven -- based on the survey results from employees. 5) Facebook officially took a stand which enables it to establish leadership in this movement. Its decisive yet conservative approach came across as more well though out. What do you think? #remotework #workfromhome #flexiblework #futureofwork …see more

JUUL Labs and its competitor PAX Labs, Inc. ’s vaporizers are some of the worst products of this decade despite the fact that both are selling a lot! I found the responses of JUUL’s CEO in this interview irresponsible and poor. Saying his campaign that directly targeted teens “lasted less than six months and they think it had no impact on sales” is flat out wrong; that’s why FDA is after the company. Also saying there’s more longitudinal research needed to understand the harm of vaporizers on people sounds like an unjustifiable excuse. The world expects more social responsibility from a sophisticated, well-trained CEO like Kevin Burns ! #socialresponsibility #goodproducts #FDA #evilproducts #evilproducts #juul #paxlabs …see more
Given the fast pace of recruiting and competitive market for talent these days, most hiring managers don't expect "Thank You" notes from candidates. Receiving one became a "delightful" moment (rather than table stakes) that can still work in favor of the candidate in terms of establishing more relationship with the interviewing team. So why not make sure to always send a quick "Thank You" note to those who spend time interviewing you?! #interviewtips #careeradvice #wintheinterview …see more
FDA approval of the 1st Digital Pill is a huge step in the digital health and pharma world. Excited for what future holds for the health category with the advancement of technology, more data, and eventually sophisticated AI.
I read this article with interest for several reasons: 1. I'm a "Kaiser Baby"--born and raised in the system (my father was a OB-GYN there), 2. I'm a devoted advocate for patient's needs, 3. I'm a nurse and 4. I had a total hip replacement at Kaiser. Wasting people's time is what 'slow learning' organizations do best and will cost them patient loyalty. The lay public cannot decipher between "great" medical care and "ok" medical care so they will assess "goodness" by efficiently, and 'customer service.'... Which matters-wasting time can cause unnecessary medical errors and make patients feel disrespected and unimportant--all things care providers should avoid! …see more
I was the guest today on the ABC radio channel Australia about the keynote I gave recently for Microsoft and The Australian Financial Review . I said how funny and depressing it is that I was called a techno activist by reporters only because I use digital health technologies to improve my health management. That's what I get for being an e-patient. That's what you will get too. You will be called a hacker like me. But, what matters here: they asked what we should do about those patients who don't care about their health unless they have a symptom. I said they have all the rights they need. But people like me, who would love to contribute, we don't have the right we deserve. That's what we fight for at The Medical Futurist . #digitalhealth #future #epatient #interview …see more

I gave a keynote about Privacy in the Digital Health Era at the recent GLOBSEC event and will release the full talk tomorrow! I analyzed this from the perspective of the freedom of choice and used the example of 4 countries. 1) In China, the freedom of choice patients have about digital health technologies is limited because the government makes them use A.I. and other ways of obtaining data about them. 2) In Rwanda, the freedom of choice is there but limited as otherwise they don't get access to healthcare, only through digital health technologies. 3) In the US, patients have a lot of freedom of choice but without proper incentives, medical professionals are not encouraged to get involved. 4) In Estonia, the government designed the right policies to help make patients the point-of-care through digital health by giving patients the real freedom of choice. I often get a question about the issue of privacy in the digital health era after my keynotes. The way I look at this question is always the same. As long as I'm the one deciding what parts of my privacy I'm willing to give out in exchange for a chance for a healthier and longer life, I'm ethically fine. I've tested so many devices and genetic tests that I'm sure my data has been shared by some of those companies with third parties. But I learnt so much along the way about my health that while such privacy breaches should never happen, I still gained more. What is your take on this question? #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #speaker #keynote #speakerlife …see more

The July Michigan measure for consumer sentiment came in very slightly weaker than consensus expectations: 72.5 versus 72.9. Meanwhile, as illustrated by the chart from Bloomberg Markets, these higher frequency measures of economic activity -- albeit partial -- are pointing to a leveling off in the US recovery. #economy …see more

While better growth expectations are also playing a role in pushing oil prices higher, the bigger driver is market anticipation of further production cuts by OPEC+. Brent is up 3.4% this morning, trading above $41 per barrel. #energy #economy #markets #oil #opec #russia #saudiarabia …see more
