This photo for me is a metaphor of "innovation" and "digital transformation" in the current era. An iPhone and a Selfie Stick to photograph electricity meters. It's cheap to implement, involves the latest technology,is deployable locally, with ZERO need for cross discipline buy in. It's quick to do, looks advanced & it does improve things. It creates lots of secure data, involved near zero risk. We live in a world of innovation & transformation as patches on broken systems. We merely add on modern user interfaces onto broken processes & foundations of the past. We can look at this and ask,is this quicker than a person on a ladder? Is this safer? & we can congratulate ourselves for what we made happen Or we can rethink what electricity meters could be. What if they were connected, and smart, designed to be much smaller? What would happen if consumers could see this on a real time dashboard? And you'd reward people for using less You could make dynamic tarifs, use real time usage data to improve planning, create new loyalty mechanisms, sell this technology to other companies, then decide to pivot to being a SAAS company that owns no assets and gets bought for a P/E ratio of 200/1 Which one do you want to do? …see more
The Apple TV seems like a very underused place for companies, services or people to make apps. Such an amazing screen to create experiences for.
Some concepts of time are human constructs and some are physics. We have 7 days in a week, 24 hours in a day, 60 seconds in a minute for no set reason. But years, days & months are set ( roughly!) by the world and we work around them. It's odd how we don't tend to distinguish between arbitrary and fixed. Soon we're in the same place (ish) we were a year ago & while it's not a remotely new idea, the power of a narrative seems especially compelling these days. Stocks rise/fall based on stories, we seem to seek only evidence to support preexisting beliefs & we act like tribes reinforcing each other's feelings. It's rude not to For almost everyone 2020 was awful. For almost everyone there are enough data points to support a narrative of progress,of optimism & of hope for 2021. They may not feel big, they may be harder to see, they may not be in the press, they may not be easy to believe,it may feel wrong. I'm not suggesting people smile because it can trick you into making you happy, or that we live in denial, or that we celebrate ignorance or ignore tragedy, or act dangerously. I'm not suggesting people do anything, I'm not a motivational speaker and I can't stand telling people what to do. But I (as one) see a lot of good things ahead, and I hope others are able to see the same …see more

Funny to think someone somewhere is guessing the value of AR and VR in Saudi Arabia, South Africa, UAE etc every year until 2025 and then charging $3,900 per user to see it. Wild guesswork as a business model. https://lnkd.in/e7tnd33
It's amazing how few people have contrary views. I guess because it's really hard work thinking differently. For one you've got to read enough but not too much.

You know what PR is. But do you really know what it's all about? PR professionals are in so many places and do so many things that it's hard to know the full truth about what they do, which leads to misconceptions like: 🙅🏽♀️ "PR works miracles" 🙅🏽♀️ "PR is just spin" 🙅🏽♀️ "Digital PR is just social media" 🙅🏽♀️ "There's no such thing as bad publicity" 🙅🏽♀️ "Good products don't need PR" For the truth about what PR is, what it does and how it works, read on: #publicrelations #pradvice #marketingstrategy …see more
With all the digital noise out there, it’s nearly impossible to stand out from the crowd based on the nuts and bolts of your product or service alone. It’s your corporate behavior, the way you treat your customers, the way you engage with your customers—your relationships—that can push you to the front of the pack. But it's not just #b2cmarketing that needs to focus on the #consumerexperience - #b2b companies need to pay attention as well. …see more
Feeling so honored to be featured in #FORBES magazine! I almost wrote a feel-good post about “black girl magic”, but I’d rather use my platform to be painfully honest. Most days, I don’t feel like magic. I’d be doing you a disservice to let you believe that my accomplishments are the product of anything less than faith, sacrifice, support, LOTS of failure, tears, bouts of insecurity, and hard work. I’ve learned from my parents that anything is possible, doesn’t matter where you came from or how you started *** Side note - disclaimer, please consume (my) social media with caution. Don’t feel like you need a fancy magazine, or public recognition, or lots of money to validate your greatness, because all that stuff actually isn’t important in the grand scheme of things. Believe in your own greatness, operate as the highest version of yourself when no one else is watching, and love people well. That’s the mark of true greatness, and all that really matters. God’s purpose for your life is bigger than validation (I have to remind myself of this often!!) …see more
For #MondayMotivation , I started the week by accepting an invitation from the African Academy of Sciences to mentor young African journalists for their #AfricaScienceDesk project. Over a two-year period, the African Academy of Sciences, the African Federation of Science Journalists and the South African Science Journalists Association with the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will provide funding to journalists in #Kenya , #Nigeria , #Senegal and #SouthAfrica to produce #science stories aimed at local or global news markets. At The AAS, the Africa Science Desk will be implemented through the AAS and the NEPAD Agency ’s Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa #AESA , an agenda setting and funding platform. “To whom much is given, much is expected.” This past year has yielded so many tremendous opportunities and blessings for my career that I am obliged to pay it forward. I look forward to helping journalists develop well-researched and reported stories about #health , #science , #research and #development issues. #Africa #Africanjournalists #sciencereporting #sciencejournalism #STEM #scientificresearch …see more

#WorldWaterWeek begins on August 26th. The next time you jump into that shower, think of the hundreds of millions of women and girls around the world who spend half of their waking hours fetching water for their families. Most can't got to school because the chore takes too much time. Often, the water they find is so filthy you wouldn't let a stray dog drink it. And even though they know it will make them and their families sick, it's the only water they have access to. Women Deliver #WWWeek #WASH #globaldevelopment #globalhealth #HealthForAll …see more
