A.I. has already penetrated every aspect of our lives, even if you just think of simple tools you use on a daily basis: the algorithms in Google, Waze, Spotify learn from your decisions and habits, and end up guiding you. It also has an enormous potential on the future of healthcare: it will enable us to move from the “one size fits all” medical solutions towards targeted, personalized therapies. However, much work needs to be done until we reach the full potential of A.I. in healthcare. It needs a lot of data, as well as a major cultural transformation among patients, medical professionals, institutions and regulators. I’m eager to help this transition. Our latest article analyzes how the digital pill could save even 125,000 lives and $300 billion in healthcare costs only in the U.S. Even so, Proteus, the company that developed pills with such digestible sensors, went bankrupt last month. This doesn't mean the technology or the idea was bad - on the contrary. I still believe the digitization of medicine holds exceptional opportunities for pharmaceutics. This is not the only trend that will determine pharma. In our new ebook, we collect all the relevant examples, best practices, and exciting ideas. They can help any pharma company, policy maker or professional prepare for these changes. Read it: #DigitalHealth #Pharma #FutureOfPharma #Pharmaceutics #FutureOfMedicine …see more
Would you let a robot draw your blood sample? Well, it seems you should. This is a really comprehensive study of artificial intelligence's potential to augment professionals' skills! A portable robotic device is capable of introducing needles and catheters into deformable tissues such as blood vessels to draw blood or deliver fluids autonomously. Studies on volunteers demonstrate that it can segment, classify, localize and track peripheral vessels in the presence of anatomical variability and motion. It can even improve success rates and procedure times compared to manual cannulations by trained operators. #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #study #research #artificialintelligence #ai …see more
I keep on geting questions about the accuracy of smartphone apps for heartrate measurement. There are smartphone apps that promise to tell you your heartrate if you put your finger on the camera near the flashlight. The simple conclusion I can share after testing a lot is that well-designed devices are much more accurate than these apps. Even studies showed that their accuracy is questionable. The apps have an error rate of about 5-15% that doesn't sound much but it's basically saying that the heartrate you measure with these apps is far from being precise and, more importantly, far from being a reliable vital sign you can base decisions on. Here is the study: https://lnkd.in/g7FBgUu #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #health #healthy #fromchancetochoice #healthapp #heartratemonitor #heartratemonitorapps #heartrateapps …see more

If you think an octopus-shaped 3D-printed pill is just a gimmick, then you've probably never struggled to give a child medicine. Or, vice versa: if you have ever struggled to give a child medicine, 3D-printed pills might help you. FabRx's pills have already been tested, and the study proved that children's compliance increases when they get 3D-printed pills in playful shapes instead of the conventional ones. More studies are needed and there are many technological limitations, but the path forward is clear. #3dprinting #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine …see more

I received the image on the right from a patient who saw this at a medical practice. Instead of that, we encourage medical professionals to use the one on the left and we send those badges out for free internationally. In the 21st century, threatening patients with their power and authority is pointless. Instead, they should act as guides in the jungle of medical and digital information. This attitude certainly leads to better doctor-patient relationships. I've been giving keynotes 4-5 times a month for the past couple of years and I had to realize I need at least a short sabbatical not only to rest but also to dedicate more free learning time to understand the impact artificial intelligence will have on medicine, healthcare and pharma. Therefore I will only accept speaker invitations from May and I hope event organizers will understand that. It also means I will post here more about my journey in chess and into the realms of A.I. in the next 3 weeks. I hope you will enjoy that as much as I do. #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #AI #artificialintelligence #chess #deeplearning #machinelearning #TMFchessjourney …see more
