Per this from the Financial Times ' Jonathan Wheatley: Pushed" by very loose Fed/ECB policies, investors' stretch for yield will (pick your interpretation): Prove profitable as emerging economies bounce back; or End mostly in tears. Please find below the link to the statement at the end of the US Federal Reserve's two-day policy meeting. Nothing in this statement should come as a big surprise to markets, including The characterization of the economic outlook, The commitment to previously-announced measures, and The lack of new measures. The (soon-to-follow) press conference will be trickier, with Fed officials hoping to remain in its current "sweet spot" involving The ability to stabilize segments of the markets without spending a dime (a la ECB in the immediate aftermath of the July 2012 "Whatever It Takes" commitment), and Sidestepping the Wall Street versus Main Street criticism, as well as the extra risks it is now taking due to the expansion of its intervention footprint (see earlier posts). https://lnkd.in/e6Fxnwf #markets #fed #federalreserve #ecb #economy #centralbanks …see more

Please, Mr. Blank Paper on my screen (or maybe you are female and refusing to talk to me) just sculpt out some words so that I can say the writer’s block is over and I can hit “Save Draft” and I can play like the five year old I was always meant to be. I can't even feed my kids until I write. Are you really going to be so cruel to my kids as to prevent me from coming up with words to type on this blank screen? But, the words have to be funny, meaningful, solve a world problem, and somewhat literary. So I’ve gotten OK, but not great, at avoiding #WritersBlock. Here’s what does it for me: …see more

I didn’t realize how much our army gets involved in all the world’s issues. They stop poachers, save animals from going endangered, they try to stop human trafficking and anything that touches the black market. I wanted to learn more about human trafficking. I know it’s a very real problem in the world, but I didn’t know enough...Hear more with Tim Kennedy (MMA fighter, super peak performer and US special forces operator) …see more

As far as our health is concerned, especially in matters of life and death, the promise of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve outcomes is very intriguing. While much remains to be done to achieve AI-dependent healthcare, especially regarding data privacy concerns and fears of mismanaged care due to machine error and lack of human supervision, there is ample potential for governments, tech companies and healthcare providers to be willing to invest and test AI-powered tools and solutions. Here are 5 AI advances in healthcare that appear to have the greatest potential. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #Tech #Technology #Healthcare #AIPowered …see more

Via Twitter, tech visionary Elon Musk recently invited "ace engineers" to apply for work at "Gigafactory Berlin," Tesla's European battery manufacturing plant, which is currently under construction in Germany. Along with the public invite, Musk included the following request: "When sending your resume, please describe a few of the hardest problems you solved and exactly how you solved them." On the surface, this inquiry seems similar to a popular interview question used by countless companies across the world. But four subtle differences set it apart, increasing its value by leaps and bounds: 1. He gets it in writing 2. He asks for multiple examples 3. He speaks in superlatives 4. He asks to see the process (Read the full breakdown in today's column.) #ElonMusk #tesla #management #leadership #spacex #emotionalintelligence #eqapplied #MakeEmotionsWorkForYouNotAgainstYou …see more

Hi LinkedIn friends, I need your help! [UPDATE: Thx to everyone for your comments--extremely helpful!! Two more questions: 1. How about a variation of the heart in lightbulb, as suggested by Selam Ghebre below? 2. Joshua Plenert got me thinking about a concept that I cover in the book, that emotional intelligence can look different from person to person (e.g., different strengths/weaknesses, no single stereotype for someone w/ high EQ). Any ideas for how to convey that visually?] My book "EQ, Applied: The Real-World Guide to Emotional Intelligence" is getting close to launch, and the design team is hard at work on cover ideas. I'm attached to the picture below (this version is from my website), but they're afraid the "heart inside brain" is too similar to some other EQ book covers out there and that it might not stand out. (Although I've seen other books with that type of imagery, I think it's different enough...but I'm curious to hear from you all!) So, two questions for you: 1. What do you think of a variation of the image/text below for the book's cover? 2. What type of image would you suggest as an alternative? Thanks in advance for your help! …see more

The "legal" requirement to use the NHS tracking app on a Smartphone to do an increasing number of things ( eat out, get on transport, stay in hotels) must be deeply challenging to whole parts of society, the elderly for example. Quite surprised this isn't more of a concern, talked about more. For a long time I've suggested that Smartphones be used for a variety of Public things, a way to pay out benefits, state pensions, to vote securely, to pay for transport, to pay tolls, and people have long said "It can't work Tom, we'd leave so many behind if we forced smartphone use". Well, here we are. Perhaps we can offer phones to everyone , train people on how to use them, and leapfrog and bypass massive wasteful, slow, inefficient, insecure legacy systems. Which would all be a great thing to come from this. …see more
