"But where is the wage growth?" That has been the refrain throughout the decade-long recovery from the Great Recession. Unemployment was low, hiring was strong and companies were complaining that they couldn't find enough workers. Yet wages barely budged. But that may finally be changing. Today's jobs report showed that average hourly earnings were up 3.2 percent in April from a year earlier, the ninth straight month of growth at or above 3 percent. And in a sign of the broad benefits of a tight labor market, the biggest raises are going to the people who need them the most. For more on the rise in wages -- and why it took so long -- see my story in today's Times. Here's a teaser: The "mystery" of weak wage growth may never have been a mystery at all. #economy #employment #wagesandsalaries …see more

I seem to like playing with #Startups these days... Who would have guessed a Midwest, middle-aged, slightly round woman, who is an industry rebel ( #radicalcpa ), would end up hanging in the Silicon Valley with the #nextgen guys who could almost be my kids. Talking about #tech #AI , #bots and #VCfund advisory. Knowing that the business case use of technology is more important than the tech itself. My #deep industry and market knowledge is unique. Then I remember the journey of all the #nobody startups who I advised, blogged about and saw as gamechangers when they had few users but just pretty good ideas... first it was @ PayCycle and René Lacerte changed my business model and my life. Then FreshBooks , Gusto , Hubdoc , Brex , Fundbox Botkeeper Xero @ Avalara less I forget @ Taxjoy and Happy Tax Boston #succesfulexitsandunicorns make me pretty popular! Who's going to be next on my list? Don't you want to know? And I love all the folks I've met along the way! #grateful #radicalcpa #tech #accountingfirm #cpafirm #cloudaccounting #practicemanagement #machinelearning #cloud #future -ready #womanintech #accounting …see more

This turns out one of two ways: either Satya’s brilliance reins in Larry Ellison’s incompetence and arrogance and this partnership succeeds, or the clashing duality of two completely different technology cultures gives Amazon one less competitor to worry about. I’m 50/50 right now, leaning Jeff Bezos, because he’s Jeff Bezos. One thing is certain: the deal terms were structured to favor Microsoft, not Oracle. Microsoft didn’t need Oracle, but Oracle needed a miracle to even be relevant in the cloud compute wars. Who benefits? AWS customers, for now. Lower AWS prices are certainly coming. …see more
Life lesson: If someone is caught between making a morally and/or ethically correct choice that can cost them, and protecting their self-interests, most people will protect their self-interests. If you're shocked, don't be. Game theory covers this concept pretty well. Most people will opt to survive when given the choice to do so. Very few choose what is right over losing a bit of skin - and the more skin lost, the smaller that already small number becomes. Learn this and learn this well, especially when it involves you. And remember it when you think someone will do the right thing but at some cost to them. Because overwhelmingly, odds say they will do the exact opposite. …see more
As Paul Brillo once said, “When you invent the ship, you also invent the shipwreck.” Society has drastically changed in the last few years. When it comes to the entertainment, news, and media we consume, we have more choice than ever before -- and nearly every app we have is designed to keep us scrolling, clicking, and engaged. We haven’t yet as a society developed what’s called social antibodies. We’re just now coming to grips with how to manage digital distraction. We haven’t figured out how to put these new tools in their place -- and that’s nothing new or surprising. I didn’t write my book Indistractable because distraction is a new phenomenon. I wrote it because it’s something humans have struggled with forever! If you could rewind the clocks 2,500 years, you’d find Plato talking about distraction. The problem of distraction goes far deeper than smartphones or social media. Until we realize that and start addressing the root causes, we’ll continue to get distracted and fall short of living our values. #Indistractable #Values #Growth …see more
Are your external triggers serving you or are you serving them? The truth is, external triggers are neither good nor bad. How you react to them determines whether or not you’re experiencing traction or distraction. I explain in the clip down below! #Indistractible #Traction #HumanBehavior …see more
