Awesome read from a brilliant friend and leader. "The gap between aspirational and practiced values is diagnostic of how much your company’s culture needs to improve. Dr. Cameron Sepah !
Walmart stepped forcefully into the national gun debate on Tuesday, saying it would stop selling ammunition that can be used in military-style assault rifles, would discourage its customers from openly carrying guns in its stores and would call on Congress to increase background checks and consider a new assault rifle ban. As a public health advocate, I say ‘Bravo’ to Walmart for living their values—this will cost them profit and customers. To create any real change in public opinion always requires someone or some company to step forward and ‘be the first.’ Equally (or perhaps more important) is ‘the first follower,’ and we already have that in Krogan’s grocery store also indicating they will restrict their customers from open carry. I’m now a new customer for both Walmart and Krogans. …see more
Numbers don’t lie: 110,000 new cases in 3 months worldwide. Increase of 300% from last year. 555 new cases in the United States in just 3 months. Highest jump since vaccines were developed. What are we talking about? I think you already know... But did you know that this low watermark for public health, science, epidemiology, social contracts and general decency? However it is a high watermark for selfishness, ignorance and personal belief over sound science. Once again proof of the value, efficacy and safety of vaccines is now front and center but only because of what it looks like in the absence of deploying such a proven science: it looks like death, disease, long-term personal injury and wasted medical resources spent not on more urgent needs but rather spent on treating a disease that had been dormant. Selected Excerpt: "We'd previously eliminated this disease not just in the US but in the entire Western Hemisphere, and it appears that now we've profoundly and sadly turned back the clock." …see more
Could an algorithm predict COVID-19 mutations? A machine learning algorithm can be taught anything - or so we believe. As a result, why couldn’t it analyze anything? Given this, could an algorithm predict where the mutations would occur in a virus sequence? If it could, the new mRNA vaccine would be ready for distribution by the time the next mutation takes place. Saving time, resources and most importantly: lives. #virusmutation #mRNA #artificialintelligence #machinelearning #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #COVID19 #COVID_19 #coronavirus …see more

The FDA just approved the first drug to treat 4-17 years old children having peanut allergies. It's designed to minimize the incidence and severity of a child's allergic reaction to peanuts. In the US, 2.5% of children have peanut allergy, but millions of people are affected worldwide. For some, eating food containing peanut - whether denied by clueless waiters or mislabelled on the package - can even be lethal. So when I say that sensors indicating whether a food has peanut can be very useful, I mean literally life-saving. In this category, I tested Nima Labs 's sensor (they also have one for gluten), and it does the task flawlessly - if you put a small sample of food in it, it indicates peanut accurately, is truly easy and fast to use, and it's portable. The only flip side is that you have to change capsules for each sampling, which is neither economical nor environmentally friendly. So, at the moment, it's not without fault - but neither is the newly approved treatment. Which do you think will come true first: the perfect cure for peanut allergy or economical and environmentally friendly testers? #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #medicine #technology #nima #glutensensor #peanutsensor #glutensensitivity #glutenintolerance #peanutallergy #foodintolerance #foodallergy …see more

Dr. Zsuzsanna Varga, a primary care physician in Budapest, put the Ask Me About Digital sticker on her door. She told me: “a young girl came in the other day, who saw the badge earlier that week, so she was brave enough to come in and show me the pictures she took with her phone on her urticaria that only comes in the morning. The patient also told me about how she googled her symptoms but couldn’t find any reasonable explanation. She was happy about the badge because she has mixed experiences of googling and interpreting it to healthcare practitioners. I think it’s a great possibility to get closer to younger generations because she felt safe and understood, so she won’t be hesitating next time she has any problem”. I agree, Gary Vaynerchuk. I've been accused of being "overly optimistic" and heard "Don't get your hopes up" more times than I care to count. There's a fine line between optimism and delusion but shooting for the stars has worked for me and taken me places that surprise many. …see more

Also keep an eye on maneuvering regarding another US fiscal package. Two key issues in particular that speak to scale, scope and effectiveness: The treatment of unemployment benefits, stimulus checks, state/local governments, liability shields, etc.. How it combines immediate relief with "living with covid" measures and with the structural policies needed to counter the longer-term downward pressures on both productivity and household economic security. #economy …see more
